Don't think either of those 2 would have been the biggest threat to beat him
I also noticed in his races, espinoza is able to gear him down so much that he is able to stop right after the wire, giving the impression other horses are galloping out past him but in face chrome consistently slows down to the wire in every race, no because he's tired, but because he wins the race at the sixteenth pole. This horse is incredible to watch and the easiest horse to root for.
Horses don't get perfect trips for no reason - perfect trips usually come to horses who have enough tactical speed to put them in position to get them
I think I've stated on this site before, but I'll state again. ROC does not have the tactical speed necessary to get a good trip from the 19th post. He is a nice horse who looks like he can run all day but he is a grinder. Borels choices were to go to the rail and save all the ground and hope something opened up or go 5-6wide the entire race. I personally think he did the right thing. ROC was doomed when he got his post, not one bit the fault of Borel - he did a really good job to get this horse 7th.
I think danza will end up being better
good decision - not good for the wagering parimutuels of the preakness
I think chitu could be competitive in the BC Dirt Mile - he ran a nice race in the derby
Hope he starts getting nicer mares - this one clearly has plenty of potential as a stallion - By Pulput who has proved to be an excellend sire of sires.
Has Golden Soul hit the board since his 2nd in the Derby? I'm not positive but I dont think so - not sure if this one is much better. However, he did make an excellent appearance in the post parade and ran a very nice 2nd - more impressive than Golden Soul's - I agree here - save him for the belmont.
ROC ran a nice race - I kind of knew he lost all shot when drawing outside because of his running style - he went from my #3 ranked derby horse to my #7/8 ranked based on his draw. His options were to drop to the rail and lose about 10 lengths on the field which he did or try to get position on the outside but since he doesnt have enough tactical speed, he would have been carried 5-6 wide all the way around the track - yes he closed nice but I tend to believe most of the field was backing up as opposed to him really showing a burst. To me, ROC is a pure grinder - I think at very best he can run 4th, maybe 3rd but i doubt it in the preakness - Looks like there will be a lot of pace to run at but if the track is fast which it should be, dont think he will be getting to the quality pace in here - I'm going to say it here that I do not like Bayern in this spot - if he proves me wrong than so be it, but he did not impress me 1 bit in the derby trial - I think social inclusion and pable del monte both have more natural speed than him and these are the 2 I think make the pace - Still loving Chrome to win going away here
