He was. He is now owned by North American interest, and should he continue to race, will run in North America. It wasn't south American pride, or interest that brought him here, it was an American man with deep pockets. I don't know that this race will ever be a 'world' interest race.
Surprise, surprise, not a single true international horse.
Not one of the more talked about Pletcher colts, but he was certainly my pick today, and he didn't disappoint.

If winning the BCC is the only thing that matters, than why should any horse run in any other race all year than the BCC?
One race does not make up for all other yearly accomplishments. The amount of graded stakes mattering is what keeps horse racing alive.
That is exactly what my complaint is. The horse with the best YEARLY schedule should win be nominated to horse of the YEAR. That horse is not arrogate. He will rightly get 3 year old honors because he did prove to be the best three year old, but he did not run a schedule worthy of the horse of the year nomination.
If he wins the Pegasus great for him, but is has no bearing on these eclipse awards.
2 graded races does not equate a horse of the year candidate schedule, period. I don't care which races they were. Arrogate will get 3 year old honors because of those two races , and likely rightfully so. But he did not run the best yearly schedule? Train is the obvious choice, because honestly who beside Chrome ran a more prestigious schedule than tepin? Who else: Songbird, beholder, miss temple city, AP Indian , flintshire, tourist and many more. None of them would have won,but each of them ran a better yearly schedule than arrogate did.
The horse of the year, should as the title proclaims celebrate the horse that had the best accomplishments all year. One race (i.e. Breeders cup) should not hold so much weight. Yes arrogate ran well and won, but could you honestly look me in the eye and tell me you think arrogate had a better racing year than chrome/(and I'll insert tepid, because aside from Chrome she had the best all around year) did? Because the answer is no. Popularity aside Chrome ran a full prestigious year. ThAt is the type of horse that should be celebrated.
I am sorry but it absolutely upsets me that arrogate is a HOTY candidate. It just goes to show what a popularity contest the eclipse has become. Yes he ran well in his scarse races but he ONLY ran TWO stakes the entire year... is that what constitutes a horse of the year now. Let's completely disregard the horses that ran and won 4 or more times, including traveling. I know he won't get the award, but just the nomination above many other much more deserving horses is infuriating.
