Hey, Mr. Shiffman! Thanks for the update on Rachel's Valentina. Rachel herself was and is one of my all-time favorites, and it's exciting to finally see one of her foals getting ready to debut. I'm posting not only because of that but because I'm currently running all of the University of Arizona Race Track Industry Program's social media pages, and you mentioned on twitter that your nephew was an alumnus. What's his name? I'm a current senior, so I'm sure he graduated before my time, but I'd still like to know so I can include him in any future posts about our alumni. Thanks so much for your time, and keep following the RTIP pages for more updates on our students and activities!
It'll be nice to have a three year old champion that actually made it to the end of the year
Sad to see her go but happy they brought her back for another year. I expect big things from her babies!
A sprinter/miler will never be 3YO champ. People value the classic races far more than races at a mile or lower. Take Animal Kingdom for example: he beat Caleb's Posse out of the Eclipse award on a measly two stakes wins just because on of those wins was the Kentucky Derby. I'm not saying one horse is more talented than the other, but certainly Goldencents isn't in the running for the award as far as the voters are concerned.
I've always quietly thought this but was too afraid to suggest it. I think the only issue would be the confusion from casual fans, the ones that just pop in for the big three. They'd probably think it was a different race entirely. And if that sounds harsh, I'll give you an example of the casual fan's racing knowledge: I did a survey of 50 people and asked them if they knew how horses got to the Kentucky Derby. 25% said they paid for a spot, 50% said graded stakes earnings (which would've been right in previous years), and the other 25% said point system. People who aren't on the pulse of racing are really, really slow to pick up on changes
Hey, he's already won more stakes races than Animal Kingdom during his championship season. So long as he stays sound, it's definitely possible.
I've always liked Verrazano, but I haven't really been impressed by him until today. I was not expecting such a big effort from him. I can't wait to see what he does in the Travers
I'm kind of surprised that neither she nor Zenyatta have been bred to Medaglia d'Oro given how well Marketing Mix has done
So much for this race being a walkover. That was a tough test, but he passed
I didn't realize how fast they were going until I watched it again. Wow
