I'm saying I don't know if can win at 9f. That isn't from what I've read, not even about his pedigree. It's from his closing eighths and the excuses weren't all that believable for the Florida Derby. If truly trapped and then freed(which is the romantic version) then it would have been more optimism producing to see him close more ground. Do you think he's very fast at a mile? Did he face much at 8.5f? What is has going for him is that he is certainly above the average of his crop, and has shown an ability to win, sometimes in spite of his own greenness, antics, veering, however you put it, and that he is quite a good-looking physical specimen. Really quite likable and in some races with the ones he beat up on and the unique circumstances(the Saratoga Special was endearing), he has looked the part of a monster. Then, upon further review. . .If he proves me wrong, I will laugh and congratulate his devoted fans.

I see a lot of people saying UR can't get 10f. Where is this coming from? Why do people say this? He's been closing ground or drawing away at the end of every single race he's ever run.

Because Pletcher apprenticed with Lukas, Pletcher sticks with jockeys harder on their horses, and Pletcher always has a few horses every year who if would have been fine under another trainer. Baffert gets the Unbridleds, the unfits.

I find it humorous how some of you clowns think you know so much about these 2 and 3 year olds not being able to race a simple 1 1/4 or even 1 1/2...time after time I love seeing people in awe once these underdogs OWN in the big races, keep thinking that and I'll keep counting my winnings as I did last year. ;-) Another note, sorry to here SC is out due to a possible career ending injury, hope he recovers fully.

Honest question: so Algorithms gets injured and everyone blames Pletcher. Fed Biz and Secret Circle get injured and Baffert's in the clear? I don't think it was either trainer's fault (they are ACCIDENTS, and it happens all the time) but I don't understand the double standard.

How do you figure him to be Coil#2? I still think he would be good for a top 12 in the Derby saying he would be 20th is a bit extreme in my opinion.

Cocoa, Come on, I'll take an early crack at this. Hansen and Bode, burn out. U.R. I like him, but sadly no, not 10f. Maybe not 9f.(that is one I won't mind proving me wrong.) Dullahan, Daddy Longs Legs(like very much) will they run well on dirt?, Went The Day Well(halter class award for pretty); runs nicely on dirt, but would have to get faster. Daddy Nose Best will be coming along to close. Who'd he beat in the Sunland since Isn't He Clever failed at Oaklawn, and I can't see why he'd be in the Derby-. Still, he's one of my better true closer picks. Not that happy with him. Sabercat, Liaison, Done Talking(looked good, but horrible field) all toss. TCI, yes, can do this, but not on the lead. That's not where I think he'll be this time;just took advantage of an opportunity in Florida. Gemologist, can't disregard undefeated, but who else was going to win that allowance race in Florida. Could stand to be a tad faster against the best here. Some scare, though. Alpha, has the breeding. Did he suck at C.D. due to his misbehavior or what. Added the evil L, then he wins again, but again with him, get faster to match the great genes(I still like him, though--he likes to win.) Mark Valeski, I like him better than the medium-ish ones, El Padrino and Prospective, but none of those are in my picks. Rousing Sermon-pull it all together and rummage up one of those closing runs like we saw this winter in Ca, then he might come rolling along with Daddy Nose Best, but not doing enough since the Cashcall. Scary good is I'll Have Another. I wish there was something to hate about him as he is my favorite, Creative Cause's Ca rival, but even IHA's stable pony is a champion. Just have to hope all the stakes experience, breeding, style and luck from devoted fans has to play a part. Let me know who I left out. I tell you what I think. Do the same, please.

Ditto to Mary, just wanted to add that of all the trainers I hope Matz gets it. Leparoux really doesn't work for me, it is 20 horses and he needs a good jock.

Name a Pletcher horse that got hurt that would have been fine with another trainer. Who are Pletchers jockeys that are harder on than horses than others? Harder on their horses than the jockeys Baffert uses? Baffert gets the "unfits"? Yeah right. You can't just throw out falsehoods and expect everybody to be stupid enough to believe you. Baffert and Pletcher both get the cream of the crop every year. Plus Pletcher runs more horses than Baffert so of course he has more horses that get hurt.

nice how some trainers SEE that a horse neeeds time off and doesn't grind them into the ground a la D Wayne

Probably smart. I love Secret Circle and I had him as my longshot favorite for the Derby prior to the Arkansa Derby but after watching him go 1 1/8 I really dont think he can make 1 1/4 with a realistic shot at winning.

Interesting analysis, Mary. I'm not off the UR bandwagon just yet, and still think he can get the 10f. I do like Daddy Nose Best though. If he gets a decent trip he will be real dangerous in open ground on the Churchill stretch.

Why do people want to knock Unbridled as a sire? He wasn't too shabby. Unbridled sired 292 runners that produced 183 winners (38 of those stakes winners) out of 437 foals earning over $31 million by 2000. Ten of his offspring were Grade I Stakes winners, four were classic winners, and three received Eclipse Awards. Unbridled is the last Kentucky Derby winner to sire another Derby winner, Grindstone, who placed first in the Kentucky Derby in 1996. Unbridled is also the last stallion to have sired at least one winner each of the American Triple Crown races (first for each listed): Grindstone, Kentucky Derby, 1996; Red Bullet, Preakness Stakes, 2000; and Empire Maker, Belmont Stakes, 2003.

TCI is #26 on the KY Derby contenders list by graded earnings & will need more points to be assured a spot in the starting field. I would stay as far away as possible from the Florida Derby.....cough, cough.....Union Rags!
