The one thing I keep coming back to is that something in the training systems changed in the 80's.
If they can use the Sunland Derby, they can bloody well use the Illinois! And another thing - Who in the SamHill is going to use the Derby Trial as a prep and turn around and run back 7 days later???? That's about the stupidest thing I've seen in a long time. The Road To The Derby SHOULD start in NOv. with the BC Juvie, not a race in England in Sept! But you're right, Brian, it's messed up!
"He dun good, didnt he, Fred?" -Snowman, from Smokey & The Bandit. AND RtG hit the board, too! :)
Just goes to show how well trained some of these horses are - they know how to save ground, when to switch leads, and when to pull up all by themselves! I hate that he grabbed a quarter (prolly hurtin like hell right about now), but I'm glad that all he came out of it with, and that his rider got nothin but dirty..that was a nasty stumble!
I've been picking about this for at least two yrs now! Every so often I'd bring it up - A few months ago, I dropped the question about Del Cap's grade satus on DRF fb page; esp. after Luck's and Grace's epic duel. The grade system in this country is slightly retarded. Now, my question is: Will it be changed on the horses' resumes? I say it should!
Yeah I'll check it out...I'm always open to new horse literature/art/movies.
You cant make a Boy Vs. Girl P/CP for HOY this yr - doesnt work, esp when the girl didnt run against any boys, her versatility is nothing compared to the boy's (Dan); it's just silly to do it this way this yr. Please do another one between MMM & Dan, or GoD or Dan, or maybe PoE. This one is just totally irrelevant in itself.
I feel bad for Godolphin, I dont like seeing them not run well, let alone NOT finish. But, OMG, is Bill Mott the King Trainer of horseracing, or what?! LOL Anyway, I had said on someone else's page last nite that if Leon doesnt bring Delta back, it's ok - she's more than earned her retirement..but i guess we're blessed with her for another yr..? Awesome! :) Very nice write, Brian!
OK, here's my solution (and I wish they'd hurry up with it!): Day 1: Juvie Filly, Juvie Sprint, Filly & Mare Sprint, Juvie Turf (colts AND fillies), Filly & Mare Turf, Ladies Classic. DAY 2: Marathon, Sprint, Juvie Boys, Mile-T, Mile-D, Turf, Classic. By combining the Juvie Turf to boys AND girls, and dropping the Turf Sprint, it puts it back to 13 races (6 on day 1, 7 on day 2), thus freeing up the money to make the Marathon a Gr I !! See? Very simple, Very easy!
Luv this! Good job, Moss! :) While there are some horses that can compete well @ 2 with no problems, I strongly believe tracks should cut down on the number of baby races and start a division of 5 & up.
