This year, he has beat BCC winner Mucho Macho Man, Imperative, future Charles Town Classic winner, Revolutionary, future Pimlico Special winner along with 2 track record setting performances. PM has never done that.
You mean the time when a tired, weak looking PM struggled home 6th, pushing WTC several paths, costing him the win?
"If you want to talk claiming horses, look no further than former claimer, Moonshine Mullen." Emphasis on the FORMER. You should look at facts before passing judgement. Moonshine Mullen has just as many G1 wins as Palace Malice this year, but no one crowns him HOY even though he is the won that beat the 3yo champion. In PM's only G1, he beat a horse who has almost never won outside of CA
Q of the D: What is your favorite quote about MOW? Mine would be, after he passed, in the newspaper they wrote "The King is dead, he has left no successor". It perfectly described how dominant a figure he was.
Am I the only one who thinks his 2014 campaign is almost identical to his 2013 campaign? At the beginning of 2013, he had 2 very promising starts, the smarty Jones and Rebel. In 2014, he had 2 very promising starts, the Donn and SA handicap. Then in 2013, he followed up the 2 good starts with 3 disappointing starts, the Triple Crown. In 2014, he followed up the 2 great starts with 2 disappointing starts, the Oaklawn (I know he won but he looked awful doing it) and Alysheba. In 2013, he ran a great 2nd in the Jim Dandy. In 2014, he ran a 2nd to Moonshine Mullen in the Stephen Foster, where he was arguably the best horse.
In 2013, he followed up the Jim Dandy with his break out win in the Travers, beating the best of his division.
If I am correct in thinking he will continue with this pattern, he is set to win the Whitney.
And to the PM vs. WTC debate, most people are showing that this sport doesn't care at all about who you face, just if you win or not. Yes, PM has won 4 of 4, but he his victories are nowhere near the caliber of WTC's defeats. Only his Met Mile is near the performance of WTC in the SA handicap and Donn. He finished 2nd in both, carrying more weight then the winner and breaking the track record in both. PM's "breath - taking" performance against claiming horses are incomparable.
It is a little greedy. And it would help the sport. But why inconvenience the horse? You might as well try to get some money out of it. Who cares about the owners, anyway? I still love the horse, nothing will change that. You are not a true fan if you let this turn you off to California Chrome.
What happened to POS? Thought she would walk over this field
IMO, Ruffian by 15. Ruffian is one of the few frontrunners who kept getting faster as the stretch went on, Zenyatta's move would look childish compared to Ruffians sheer speed and stamina
Ruffian or Zenyatta 10f?
