Personal Ensign???? What because she won 13 easy races. WHAT about Winning Colors who won the Santa Anita and Kentucky Derbies, ran 3rd in in the Preakness and ran in the mile and a half Belmont Stakes. SHE gets absolutely no respect at all. The lightly-raced, coddled Personal Ensign got her by a whisker at the wire and, as far as I'm concerned...that is no victory...it's pretty much a dead heat. Give me a break with this mare. This frigging mare gets put ahead of her after only one race????????...how is that? Winning Colors had a gruelling 3 year old campaign...that everyone seems to have forgotten about, but I'd like to have Personal Ensign do what WC did. while Personal Ensign was running in easy races and beat what males...Kings Swan? She should have run against Risen Star...then we'd see how good she was. If she had raced Winning Colors when Winning Colors was at her best earlier in the year...she would have been left at the gate, and if she was so great...why didn't she run in the BC Classic? Personal Ensign is the biggest farce I ever saw. She ran against a tired, worn-out, way past her peak form Winning Colors. I am SO SICK of Winning Colors be brushed aside because of this farce of a mare. This sport makes me sick more and more. It's the only sport I know of that brushes its REAL Champions to the side, so it can make room for the manufactured ones. Sickening.
Stay away from the Florida tracks when prepping a horse for the derby. The tracks down here are very deceiving and a great victory here in Florida really doesn't count for much. ie: Empire Maker had a brilliant final derby prep here in Florida then came up short in Kentucky. Stay away from Florida...the tracks here are speed-favoring and deceiving.
I question his ability to get the classic distance of a mile and a quarter. I think he's probably more of a great miler.sprinter type.
I think that's awesome that Illinois has their own end-of-the-year horse racing awards. makes it more worthwhile for the industry and the participants.
I think Blind Luck was awesome, and hopefully her foal will be too.
I miss the Flamingo Stakes and the Marlboro Cup. New York's Fall Championship meet was the best way to determine Horse of the Year, NOT this one-race Breeder's Cup event where a horse beats another horse one-time, they are declared the better horse...that's a bunch of bull crap. Bring back the NY Fall Championship...The Marlboro Cup, the Woodward and Jockey Club Gold Cup...the best races ever.
Bold Forbes.
