I think it's very telling that Joel jumps off ROC and gets on Tonalist.
@dencapiche........wow, you know that ROC will be beat by 18-20 lengths? Do you have that camera from the twilight zone episode?
nice article Mary on Hopp. While I think he is a very nice horse, I just don't see him winning the derby. Danza is the one that scares me and he is very fresh, even coming off his recent victory. The way Danza just blew by those other horses in the stretch, wow. I keep telling myself that could have been just one of those lucky days for him, but I think I know better, I think Todd was just waiting for the right time to unleash this monster.
good analysis Brian and I totally agree with you on MH. I have always liked this horse alot and I really was wishing he would make the derby field. Out of all the derby qualifiers, Midnight Hawk is the 'youngest', his foal date is May 14th, 2011 and I think he has done a great jon along the derby trail being so immature. I have a feeling that he is going to run big in the Illinois Derby and do it it in 1:49 and change.
wow, this fella came out of nowhere, but he sure ran a great race. Super ride by JB too. As a side note, I hope Jose gets Willie Martinez to ride Wildcat Red in the Derby, with a great jock like Willie, Wildcat Red has a good shot.
really Peter? Then why is he on the Derby trail and why is he nominated?
I gotta eat a healty portion of crow here. I really thought that Wicked Strong was not on the same level as most of the other horses on the Derby trail. Hey, I'm not afraid to admit when I'm wrong. So, kudos to him and his connections.
So, does anybody on here know Jose? If you do, how about running the idea of getting Willie to ride him by him in the Derby? I bet Willie would welcome the opportunity and he would give it his very best effort for Jose and the owners of WR. Willie and Wildcat, now that's a winning combination if you ask me!
@tmallios...I am a fan of Willie, but I don't know him, wished I did! I lived in Bham, Alabama when they opened up the horse track in the 1980's and Willie used to ride there, he was my favorite jock. BTW, Jon Court used to ride there to early in his career also. Anyway, when Borel jumped-off 'Mine That Bird after the derby win, I was hoping the owners would have put Willie on him, but they didn't, they put Mike Smith on him. Willie has still got the touch, he picks and chooses his rides at Tampa, but when he gets on one, you better pay attention. @ Buzzcat......really, JV would never ride WR in the Derby? What other solid options does he have? You kind of make it sound that JV would be too good to get on WR for the derby. If I was a jock, I would be thrilled with this horse, he may not win, but you never know. This horse is a gutty, fighting, big-hearted competitor, I wouldn't discount him.
I just like Wille better, he fits this horse and I hope Jose will use him. Willie has been around for a long time and he is a great jock.
