"The horse neds a rest" means the connections realize his distance limitations and will wait untill the TC races are over to bring him back in G1 and G2 competion against other 3yo colts.
Pimlico typically is speed favoring, so the pace in the Preakness will likely be a replay of the Derby. As others have mentioned, I expect Hansen to cut loose rather than rate. Dullahan is a great closer and another hot pace may set up well for him, but is Pimlico the right place? Is three races in five weeks too much for Bode? Union Rags surely will get a better trip -- with a new jockey?? I like this bunch this year.
Great recap on an interesting group of contenders this year. If O'Brien were to send one of his over this deep field would be even more intriguing. To see the top three finishers from the BC Juvenile still at the top of the list in April makes this an unusual year. · 2 seconds ago
Brian, I too like Empire Way but I am concerned that he has to win some money to make the Derby field.

In the world of thoroughbred racing, a $100k is not big bucks. I'm surprised someone did not step up to make this happen. I can only assume (I surely have no knowledge of the situation) that investors did not like the chances; or King Leatherbury is not an easy guy with whom to strike a business deal.
Given the relatively weak group of males in the Classic division I hope she tries the boys so my hope is to see her in the Pacific Classic. The synthetic surface at Del Mar is a bit quirky so I'm a little concerned what the connections will learn by running her there.
