Yay Laura - preach it! Everyone needs to pay particular attention to the 3yo Classic contenders this year - watch how most will pick the winner of the last "big" race; it's like thier attention span doesnt go back beyond the week before and when Derby Day hit, the favorite will be the one that won the last big Derby prep race. I'm thinking they are either suffering from short-term memory or they're too lazy to do their homework from the beginning of the year and just pick the last big winners. Wither way, it is short-changing a lot of the really good consistant runners from the WHOLE year. So, yeah, Laura, keep ranting; whether the rest of HRN is in agreement or not, you'll no doubt get plenty of back-up much many else in the racing world!
This was a great write - I'd forgotten just how immortal she was! Thanx for reposting, Brian. :)
GARBAGE, GARBAGE, GARBAGE!!! After he only beat one horse in a Gr III (something obviously happened cuz he was off for 4 months!), Sadler dumped him in a $32-$28k claiming race to get rid of him! From there, he was passed down/around - get a couple of wins out of him and hand him off! Sadler is just as much of an automaton as the rest of the trainers in this sorry "sport"!! "I'm happy to do what's right for the horse, as who all involved are." - GARBAGE, AGAIN!! If ANY of you trainers were so all-fired "happy to do what's right", you'd recognise and intercept when a horse starts dropping in class like that!! My message to ALL TRAINERS: Pull your heads out of your little foggy, automaton world and look at the past performances when you get a new horse in the barn - how far has he dropped, how long has he been dropping, how many barns has he passed thru like a half used roll of paper towels? WAKE UP AND GET A CLUE OR GET OFF THE FIELD!!
This horse has been running for 6 yrs; he's been claimed at least 3 times, steadily dropping in class for over 2 yrs. This last race, he made an $8k drop in class and finished the worst he ever has. No, he didnt run his race - he's TIRED now! What does it take to get people to see the forest for the trees?
Actually, ya know what? The trainers probably are looking at where the horse has come from and that makes it even worse.
It's the damn trainers!! Everytime they claim a horse, are they checking that horse's resume to see where he's come from? Are they doing the homework to see how far the horse has dropped and how fast? NO, THEYRE NOT - SLACKERS! I hold the trainers half responsible; the other half of the responsibility goes to the ignorant, oblivious owners! They just keep passing them around like a roll of paper towels. I blasted Doug O'Neill's fb page about this very thing last month. About three months ago, they told someone they dont do claim-backs -BS!! I called them on it and they didnt like it...tough! Quit passing horses around like the DRF in the kitchen and start paying attention to the PP's!!
I, too, would like to follow Nos. 2970 & 3077. Also, #446 (Tiznow - Silken Cat) .
Personally, I'd like to see Calder close, Hialeah make a comeback, and GP & Hia can go back to trading winter dates like they used to. Racing in FL in the summer is like racing in NY in the winter, there's no common sense to it and it's too hard on the horses - I never understood how FL managed to keep three track going for so long in such close proximity. Just fold your hand and step away from the table, Calder, GP & Hia were there first anyway.
Very much agree with your #1. However, there were so many awesome races this yr, how did you manage to numerate them??
By the time Feather is Maria's age, I think she will have accomplished just as much and MAYBE a bit more than Maria; so my scales tip toward Feather! :)
