I have many articles from great horses. It is very hard to verify their connection to what I know is that source however. Authenticatoin is the difficulty here.

a shoe? doubt it. those are mementos usually for owners and such. Most of them get swept up in the trash when the blacksmith is shoeing them. Halters are a robbery. You can make your own halters. I still have a halter from an eclipse award winner that I took care of. Its worth nothing. Saddle towels hower....thats where the money is!

I was at an auction where a Curlin halter went for 4K...Hardly worthless. The next year a Rachel Alezander halter went for 5K

I'm in no way an expert, but I do dabble in the collecting trade. The trick would be to get someone from the Mo camp - groom, Pletcher, or even the farrier for their stable to sign a piece of paper authenticating the shoe with the race date, track, and event name (IE Kings Bishop). If you don't already know a friend of a friend that knows one of these people in the Mo camp, my advice would be to just call the track office and work your way up the ladder telling them that you would like to authenticate the lost shoe from the Kings Bishop at Saratoga. If the shoe still has some distinguishing characteristics like maybe nails still on the shoe or possibly some track dirt to show it was indeed on that surface during the race, it should be fairly easy to get them on board. If it is THE shoe that possibly contributed to Mo's loss that day, I definitely could see a collector wanting that item. With the vast fan base that Mo has, could be a pretty penny. Not only is it a shoe from Mo, but THE shoe that got a lot of publicity on its own. Good luck!!
