Great article, Lenny! Agree, kudos to the Zayat's and Bob Baffert for a job well done and for racing American Pharaoh throughout the year. But totally agree it was a bit of an empty win, and it was much like the Belmont. Nearly a walkover.
AP is truly a great horse, but I can't help feeling that the list of horses that could have done what he did in the Belmont and Classic is very long... including Silver Charm, Smarty Jones, California Chrome and even Funny Cide for starters. Winning slow-paced races on the lead isn't exactly a challenge.
A video Who Am I? That's awesome...
Great post... agree... and 10 very good reasons...
He can win at 7 furs..but 6 is too short for him, This animal is close at 6 furs off class alone. He needs minimum 7 furs to show his best. Management of this horse is very questionable. If they didn't want to run at SA so badlywhy isn't he in NY running in the Kelso.
Word to Dennis O Neill...Goldencents is not a sprinter..How many wins does Goldencents have at 6 furlongs?
Right on buds. ZERO SENSE..at this time..Now he is being asked to run at a distance he really doesn't like. All of those seconds at 6 furs is all class. Not because he is a 6 furlong horse. What's wrong with these guys...And didn't co owner Josh Kaplan say he won't be running in a 6 furlong race..
Great stuff Tony! Always sad to see another track close...
Goldencents had a very good 4 furlong breeze on 9/13 ...Don't be surprised if he stays home for the Awesome Again. He moves very well over that track. Hope I'm right...
Good thoughts, Mike! One other idea someone brought up is to play contests. On a site like DerbyWars.com, you can get in a contest for $20 (or less) and play for a couple hours and get a great run for your money!
