Jockey Cornelio Velasquez escaped serious injury in a spill Jan. 10 at Aqueduct Racetrack before bouncing back to win the $64,000 allowance feature aboard Sinai (VIDEO). He was not hurt when his mount Pleasantfriday broke down in the stretch run of the fifth race and tossed him to the track. Shaking off the spill, Velasquez later guided Sinai, the 9-5 second choice, to a 1 1/4-length victory over He's So Chic, the 6-5 favorite. Pleasantfriday was euthanized due to injuries to her right foreleg. Sinai, a gray 5-year-old trained by Rudy Rodriguez, ran the six-furlong race in 1:10.23 for his third win in 17 starts.
