couldn't agree with you more. Overanalyze is inconsistent and Oxbow should improve off his performance today. Don't think the Arkansas Derby will have a big impact on the Kentucky Derby this year.

This horse needs to be taken off the dirt. He ran much better on the turf and synthetic.

In the derby. They went incredibly fast (believe it was 22 3/5, 45 4/5, 1:09 4/5 1:34 3/5) Bodemeister was opening on the far turn, in the lead by 5 lengths. In my mind I was saying "Damn. What type of horse is this?" It was amazing. He looked like he was opening, even with that pace. I'll Have Another came to win, but I was more impressed with Bodemeister. In the Preakness I was contemplating who to pick. I finally chose I'll Have Another. But, I bet exacta box Bode-IHA, and I hit the super. When Bode went the 1/4 in 23 3/5, and the half in 47 and something, I said to myself "What a dumb pick to play IHA win-place." In the stretch, IHA was running awkwardly in the stretch, and he caught Bode! Same with Dressage, I thought Bode was the better horse, but after the Preakness I thought IHA was better. No doubt, Bode is underrated. He would have easily won both the derby and preakness if not for IHA. He was one spectacular horse, both of them.

As for most impressive performance, Barbaro, hands down. I do think the question is unclear. If you mean best career I think Mary Z is spot on. Funny Cide had the best career. considering he was very good until 6. He was a gelding, though. And Animal Kingdom might surpass him, but as Mary said only a couple left for him. If he wins the World Cup, he might overtake Funny Cide, IMO. As for potential, it was: 1. Barbaro 2. Smarty Jones 3. I'll Have Another. I did like Big Brown an awful lot, however he was on drugs.

Definitely! It honestly annoys me when people say he couldn't get the distance. He ran the derby in about 2:02. You cant see many horses doing that. If Paynter hadn't been entered in the Belmont, Bode probably would have and IMO, without IHA there, he would have won.

Dressage, both your posts on this thread I completely agree. How could he not get the distance? In the derby, somehow, held second. How? Seriously. I believe he ran 1:34 4/5 for the mile, still held second! In the Preakness, while he proved not to be as good as I'll Have Another, beat the third place finisher (Creative Cause) by nine lengths. He would have won the derby. He would have destroyed the Preakness. Bodemeister's only flaw was being born in the same year as I'll Have Another. In my lifetime, I never saw a more impressive second place finish, I think (derby). I do have one question. If Paynter wasn't entered, Bodemeister would have won the Belmont, I think. Paynter, a very good horse, only ran three races leading to the Belmont. Wasn't conditioned to run 1 1/2 mile. Bodemeister, on the other hand, ran six races. Bodemeister, with the pace Paynter had, would have absolutely crushed the field I think. This is why I am so hung up on Bodemeister as a stallion. He easily could get 10 furlongs. And, depending on pace, easily 12. He is by Smart Strike. Yes, the beautiful canadian-bred Smart Strike. If you remember the Zenyatta thread, I want Bodemeister bred to Zenyatta. Two horses who could run all day, a mixture of speed and stamina, nice cross, etc. Not to mention, I like Bodemeister's conformation photos.

Barbaro is definitely the one who destroyed the most & put up the most impressive win. however, i loved Animal Kingdom & Mine That Bird's wins. Mine That Bird deserves to be mentioned for having everything stacked against him, & making moves like that to win. he won by a pretty good margin also.

If you consider performance in the Triple Crown races, Smarty Jones hands down! His 11&1/2 length win in the Preakness should send chills down the spine of everybody who's ever watched it, and I'm pretty sure his 10-furlong split in the Belmont (2:00 and change) was second only to Secretariat-- who coincidentally also had a supposed stamina-deficient pedigree.

Do you mean best Derby win only, or best career? Although personally I liked Street Sense most of that period of Derby winners(going back to 2003), there's duel Classic winner Funny Cide that had graded stakes wins and placings through age 6, a minor stakes win at 7 . Of course as a gelding, he could have that longer career. Could turn out to be Animal Kingdom, but he only has a few more races left.

That was also kind of my question too, Mary Z. Do you mean who ran the most impressive Kentucky Derby or who had the most impressive career among the Derby winners? From a visually impressive standpoint I think it would be close between Barbaro & Big Brown because both of them dusted their respective Ky. Derby fields by a fairly sizable margin. But if you're asking which Ky.Derby winner of the past 10 years do I think showed the most potential for a career I would say Smarty Jones.

dressage do y know who caracortada is ? hr en last year at santa anita the trainer walked away from where he was watching the race looked hopelessly beaten then closed 5 lengths in 50 yards to win. he was a 6 1/2 turf horse that day in a stake rafael bejarno rode him that day im just a little off on the spelling not far off though just enough to aggravate me

I liked him more than IHA and thought he was the better horse too, until I saw the Preakness. I thought for SURE IHA wouldn't catch Bode, but he came out of NOWHERE with a GIGANTIC kick. That race turned me into a believer of IHA. I remember just standing in the stands in pure amazement thinking "Crap, he's the real deal."

it is simple math here, 1 G1 win and two G1 places do not stake up to 2 G1 wins in the top races. I throw out the BCLC for Questing, as she got hurt and pulled up, but even in June of 2012 in an AlwOC, Questing defeated Book Review, who would go on to trounce My Miss Aurelia in the La Brea

IMHO. I have always said (when we have discussed this) That this was a tough divison to pick. Questing had big wins in the Alabama, Coaching Club. And she came a strong second in the Colliton, to MMA. By a head, with a seven pound weight disadvantage. MMA one an overnight stake, and then, as I mentioned the Colliton duel. She was an incredibly game second to a monster in Royal Delta. And the La Brea was not a race suited for her. I think MMA deserves it. She had a very good year. A big G1 win, a game G1 second, and a third place finish in another G1. MMA deserves it, but just barely, IMO.
