There is always a race horse's performance that wows all onlookers. But, Secretariat, in a five-week span, set three Triple Crown track records. To have one performance is awesome, but, when there is three, that is beyond the stratosphere.

Thank you, t_v, I was wondering if I was the only one to think this thread was pretty much moot.

You speak of Triple Crown winners as they are seen everyday, he could have lost the Triple Crown and still be considered to many as great but just not that great. ;-)

When half the civilized UP TO DATE horse racing world acclaims a horse as the second coming of Man O'War one should listen....I never got on the bandwagon until his three year old season.

Yes, and those records all still stand. The Maryland Racing Commission changed the official Preakness time to 1:53 flat earlier this year.

Yea, he'd still be pretty great, but not that great. I mean, there wouldn't be a movie about him. They might just talk about him like they do (or should i say don't) talk about Count Fleet or Sir Barton

Sir Barton was a mediocre horse. Gallant Fox gets credit, he was good and a sign of how good the Euros were. Omaha was pretty good. War Admiral was pretty good. Whirlaway with his gorgeous long tail is a famous one, if only for the name. Assault was lame at every gate but a gallop, but his rival Armed was more impressive. Noor is very underrated, and he was some horse as well as Stymie. lol. Stymie just kept on running! Talk about longevity! Tom Rolfe was good, maybe better than Round Table but we don't hear a lot about him. Herod and Matchem the other two foundation sires of the modern Thoroughbred are known by almost none but those who relish history and the affect breeding has on horses.

Count Fleet is possibly the most underrated horse to ever walk the earth, competing with only Coaltown and Tom Fool.

Count Fleet was amazing he won the belmont by 25 lengths. However what your saying RacingFan1 is compleatly true. Look at Sir Barton, Gallant Fox, Omaha, War Admiral, Whirlaway, Count Fleet and Assult. They are all extreamly under rated! Sir Barton never won a race until the Kentucky derby, Whirlaway ran to the outside rail in a race and ran on it the entire race and still won!! I bet a lot of people only know the last four triple crown winners and don't care about the rest.
