Animal Kingdom did not win outside of KY and Stay Thirsty did not win outside of NY. I think the difference in the media support lies in the head-to-head matchups. AK beat ST in the Derby by nearly 12 lengths while ST had no apparent excuses, but finished behind ST in the Belmont with a huge excuse, ie. running injured.
