I think you may see Calvin's horse get no respect as Wildcat and General's riders will be more worried about saving as much horse as possible for the charge of Top Billing and Commish. So, they may look up and see while they were looking back on the final turn to locate those two, Calvin took off. I think sitting out since New Years will hurt General A-Rod and his trainer has said he has the races yet to come in mind, so I'd take a win play on Almost Famous, an exacta box with Commisioner, Top Billing and Wildcat, and a tri box with the 4 of them.
You make a good point about Castellano. I had presumed it was his choice to ride Wicked Strong, but he may not have had the option of riding the 1, even though he had two wins in two rides on him
This is the reply I gave in Homeless Handicappers, our FB handicapping group where you posted your article: n all major sports, the MVP is a popularity contest among those who can lay even a reasonable claim to the award, as are awards like Cy Young etc. I think horse racing, a sport desperate to even be noticed, should be thrilled to give an Eclipse Award to any horse in any division who can win over the hearts of the voters even if a totally analytical analysis would seem to render a different recipient. I am all for a horses popularity being as much a factor in the voting as where or not they lost one race by a hundreth of a second. Zenyatta did a hundred times more to benefit racing than Blame. She WAS the horse of that year, the year before and maybe even the year after she retired in the minds of the public, and really, thats all that matters.
He came back very heavy at Del Mar. I do not think Baffert has been able to train him the way he would like. Truth be told, I would love to see him sent to a top trainer back east. I do not know that his hooves can handle Bullet Bob's training style and the hard SA surface, and I don't think he likes poly.
Rydilluc is Barbaro's Brother From Another Mother!
I think he is Barbaro's brother from another mother.
Way too many breakdowns on that Santa Anita dragstrip to risk the greatest horse since Secretariat there. It would have been neat to see him attempt the Arc, but 12 furlongs is by no means his best distance in anyones estimation, so this is probably the route I would go if I owned him as well.
He is apparently a cheatin' sumbitch!
Great piece, Chris! Look forward to playing the ponies with you in 2012 at Arlington AND getting you and BZ down to Kentucky Downs, America
I applaud you for taking a strong stand, Brian. I think Mike Smith being on Astrology instead of this horse is a big indicator that Astrology is live, so that's my choice, as well as Sway Away for longshots in here. Good luck!
