Will Take Charge no adapta bien a una pista majada.
travel_vic The record holder in the Travers is General Assembly. He was sold to Germany. I am always amused that certain stallions fall out of favor and then get few opportunities. I am amazed that the fastest horse in our lifetime is represented by so little cross-breeding. By fastest, I mean over a distance, but Secretariat also put up some excellent speed figures at shorter distances as well. When Canadian Bound sold for an astronomical figure and then did not race, people complained Secretariat was no good at stud. It could be that some of his greatest attributes were recessive and would not be reproduced without more cross-breeding. Since fourty years have passed there has been little attempt to do so. What are you waiting for?
All right, maybe the course is undulating and the turf was soft. He did accelerate well. Still, it seems Excelebration is almost always second. Goldikova had a better time and she dared to come here and won repeatedly. Why are the connections of Frankel and Caviar unwilling to risk their win records? What a disappointment! At least Zenyatta twice took on the best. What is the best mile turf race in Europe? If Frankel wins that I will agree that some of the hyperbole is justified.
It's a sad commentary on horse racing when a 1:37 4/5 mile on a straightaway is considered amazing.
Secretariat vs. Man O War. of course, will never happen. It's like trying to compare Jesse Owens with Usain Bolt. Certain facts favor Secretariat. He was from a much larger foal crop, beat a horse who would be HOY multiple times, won the Triple Crown, ran six times after the grueling Triple Crown and did lose to two older horses but still beat all the best older horses in world record time in the Marlboro Cup. Secretariat's times were much better than any horses before or in the forty years since. He won as far west as Illinois and in two countries. He was undefeated on the turf, a surface Man O War never tried and beat the best turf horses in America. Neither ran after age three, but in Secretariat's case it was because he had been syndicated and the group did not want to risk injury before his retirement. If he had run he would probably, amazingly, been even better. His Belmont win is still considered one of the top athletic achievements ever.
Alydar, it was said, did not change leads and that enabled Affirmed to beat him 6 of 9 times.
How about naming it Moneypit or Tapout since it will be a waste of Zenyatta's great attributes?
Sorry, I meant to write conformation. I want details, like heigh, weight, pastern length and angle, defects, special characteristics, etc. While I'm asking, who knows why Zenyatta stretched he forelegs out as she was parading around the walking ring? I do disagree with the hypothesis that breeding and conformation are the same. If that were true, why did War Admiral show little resemblance to Man O'War, for example? Why did Mr. Prospector have so much success getting classiic distance progeny when he was a sprinter? Was it the dams or were they throwbacks to Native Dancer or Nashua?
I was hoping to read some information about confirmation. All I read was that Zenyatta looks more like Kris S. Some of us do not have the opportunity to see horses in light of their confirmational attributes and drawbacks. I was hoping that the breeders would choose a stallion like Tiznow or Rock Hard Ten. A large horse with a great race record, as is Zenyatta. It seems that breeders often want to downplay the outstanding traits. Secretariat showed great speed and stamina and yet it seemed that so many mares were chosen just for their stamina. Why is Bernardini a better choice than the ones I mentioned or than Giant's Causeway? Why did they chose Tapit for her second foal?
