Mike Smith got a bit trigger happy on the 'Bode' and set blistering fractions for the first mile. Maybe he just wanted to be in front of Triniberg early on. Well, he did just that and paid the price. Once again Mike Smith ruined the reputation of Bodemeister as the best 3 year old around as he did with Zenyatta of being undefeated when losing the Breeders Cup. Bodemeister looked like a winner at the top of the stretch in the Derby but Mike ran him into the ground from the get go. Look for Bodemeister to romp in the Preakness.
Bodmeister will be favourite and the speed. Look for a Preakness record if the track is fast.
Dullahan, Heavy Breathing, Howe Great, Holy Candy, Ever So Lucky, Hansen.
Bodemeister can give bejarano his first Derby victory. Bodemeister is still improving and would have clocked 1.42 flat behind CC in his last. Well bred to stay the derby trip. You can get a soild 8/1 in the Derby.
Dullahan came from last to finish a closing 4th in the Breeders Cup race late last year. Since, he has finished second on the grass in a 'wicked' 1.46.56 over 11/8. He was staying on strongly at the finish. He is certainly the one to beat in the Blue Grass and can fetch 5/2 at the off.
Well, stamina will be the deciding factor, like any other Belmont Satke going 12 furlongs. As this year's 3 year are more endowed with closing speed, it will be difficult for a front runner to go all the way. Master of Hounds who was quarantined before the Derby and only got in some work 1 week before the 'run for the roses' was seen finishing like a train along the rails at the end of the mile and a quarter event to end up in 6 th place.Skipping the Preakness and getting in some good works can only see this one improving from here on end. The owner of the Epsom Derby winner Pour Moi who came from last in the final 2 furlongs to win the Derby, John Magnier, owns Master of Hounds.
Comma to the top will be the speed for a very long way. If Sidney's Candy was in this years edition he will be close to favourite odds, and quite rightly so. Comma to the top best move in all of his races is on the far turn and I see him 5 lengths clear at the top of the stretch. A lot of his competitors are late stretch closers, so that may help him win this whole thing.I think the best of the late closers with good post position is Brilliant Speed.
