Since yesterday all these horses (and more!) were ranked down by .02 points: Secretariat, Man O' War, Citation, Seattle Slew, Affirmed, Spectacular Bid, Ack Ack, Princess Rooney, Sunday Silence, etc., etc. All these horses should be going up, not down! Why are you people even here if you don't like horses? Why are you voting when you are in the dark about what a great horse is? Go away already.
What a durable mare this was, taking 27 of 58 starts, while placing in another 21 starts, and earning $1,038.704. She won 3 Grade 1's on the way to a total of 16 lifetime stakes wins and another 17 stakes placings.
This mare won 26 of 70 starts in the early 1970's, including 18 stakes victories (one Grade 1 win), and another 19 stakes placings.
Boy! Someone has been awfully busy in the last few days ranking down Affirmed and Spectacular Bid. If you're giving horses like this less than a 10 you should go away.
She was a multiple Grade 1 winner of 16 races from 39 starts and won over $900,000 in the early 1980's. A fabulous runner!
At least the rankings are starting to go up instead of down now that I pointed out the negativity on the site. Horses that were at 8.9 and 8.8 several months ago are all in the 8.2 and 8.1 range. It's good to see the rankings going back up now, instead of continually going down! Keep up the good work.
Child please...
I don't have any bias against any horse. He's just no the best horse of all time. He might crack the top 10, but just barely. Still, that's a great accomplishment. He was a great horse.
Man O' War is probably about in the 10-12 range of all time horses, because he was great, but it's odd how some folks get so carried away with him. I'm not even sure if he could have handled horses like Native Diver, Ack Ack, Foolish Pleasure, Holy Bull, Cougar II, Northern Dancer, Sunday Silence, Easy Goer, Skip Away and Ghostzapper, at 10 furlongs on dirt, but I guess I should just accept that he would have defeated them all by 100 lengths while sleepwalking, backwards. ;)
The topic here is the silly rankings, it's not foal crop size. The latter discussion already took place. Besides foal crop size, though, take a look at Man O' War's record, listed below, and you'll realize he never faced a horse of any consequence, and he usually ran against 3, 2 or 1 opponents, all bad, and his times were moderate as well. I think Secretariat, Forego, Spectacular Bid, Damascus, Dr. Fager, Buckpasser, Affirmed, Swaps and Native Dancer would be too much horse for him. That's my opinion, you're entitled to yours. Have a great day.
