Nice line up! Go Caleb! I love Shakleford, too, but Go Caleb!
I think the "Derby Owner for the Day" is a great pitch for tracks. What fun it would be to be the lucky winner and get to be the honorary Owner, much less get to bet $1,000 on a 15-1 shot and have him win! Cool!
I agree with Elaine. That's all anybody seems to care about anymore - speed.
I agree. Trinniberg looked like a nice little miler to me, I was impressed. Hansen is a special horse. There are a lot of good races out there 1 1/16 and shorter.
Havre de Grace is a wonderful, beautiful mare. Zenyatta and Rachel are, too. They are all individuals, placed on their racing path by humans. So, instead of dogging out these wondrous creatures, you need to be dogging out their human connections. Even the slowest old plug on the track has dignity, and has given his/her all for your enjoyment. Please give them the respect they deserve, and they all deserve your respect.
I'm just a casual horseplayer, particularly in season at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, AR. So I certainly don't know most of the goings on at all the tracks and racinos around the county. But it certainly appears that Oaklawn has found a winning combination that uses slots (or what passes for slots in a "no games of chance" State. From the middle of January through the middle of April, racing is king and the year-round slots benefit racings purses. Of course, Oaklawn is family-owned. It's the mega-corporations who are driving racing into the ground.
