As much as I like the Pharaoh I think Firing Line may take this one.
Mary Bal a Bali has won 11 of 12 starts including the Brazilian triple crown. In the triple crown he set a track record for 12 furlongs in 2:23.25 and nearly broke the world record for a mile in 1:31.16. Hopefully he has recovered well from his illness, if he shows the talent he showed in Brazil he will be a force to reckon with this year. I'm surprised the article did not go into this more, he is the most accomplished horse in the field albeit not in the US. By the way Mary did you happen to see my post on Royal Delta yesterday? Thought you would like to hear the news on our girl.
Heard that she has been confirmed in foal to Galileo, January 2016 foal. Very exciting!
Very disappointing, i think he would greatly benefit from a trainer change. I'm no expert but when you look at the way ROC trains to the way the big winning trainers train something just doesn't seem right.
Glad to hear it, I hope he comes back better than ever.
It's official! American Pharaoh will win the Kentucky Derby as per Jimmy Fallon's puppy predictor. He broke well from the gate and never looked back. Seems like reliable handicapping tool to me.
Article on Bloodhorse yesterday saying that Hollendorfer's assistant Dan Ward said he would likely be out 60-90 days, no word on not racing the rest of the year.
Assuming he is healthy and ready to roll Derby day in light of his recent fever.
Love American Pharaoh for the win but my somewhat longshot is Upstart, he has never run a bad race and as we all know the Derby is as much about a good trip as it is about talent so if he gets a good trip I think he can pull it off.
Tapit had definitely been very hot the past couple of years, I would love it if they would breed Royal Delta to him when she returns from Ireland. If she is half the broodmare her mother was combined with what Tapit's offspring have been able to accomplish that would be a scary combination.
