How can I post a message here? All I seem to be able to do is to comment at the end of articles OR comment in reply to someone else's posting. I'd like to ask everyone if they know where a photo of California Chrome, being led by Perfect Drift, prior to the Derby can be found. Not one that just shows half of each horse, but a head to toe, tail to nose, shot of Chrome, Victor in the saddle, being led by a gal riding Perfect Drift. I had it as my wallpaper on my computer, but I somehow lost it. PLEASE HELPQ
California Chrome didn't only grab his right quarter; he also came close to severing a tendon in his left fore. THAT latter injury was the one that had Sherman, after the race, holding his breath. "That could have been devastating," he said. Coburn is lucky the horse came out of the race in fairly good shape, considering the jostling and bumping he endured. He will live to race again. He is quite a horse, no matter what.
Nothing Steve Coburn said or did will affect the way most of us remember California Chrome. All the horse did was run his guts out. He had nothing to do with Mr. Coburn's intemperate remarks. Like someone stated, Mr. Coburn is too new to the game to be very familiar with how races usually turn out. To have a horse like California Chrome is very rare indeed, and it probably won't happen again in Mr. Coburn's horse-owning lifetime.
I, too, think he can get the distance and I believe he has the heart and the will to win. I'm just hoping that Victor rides him the way that Victor is capable of riding him, and that the racing gods smile upon him and bestow on him the best of luck.
