We all know that is a big part of racing re: late scratches. Eskenderaya could have already conquered the TC if he had stayed healthy. Positive - now this becomes one helluva betting race!
Wow, I didn't realize all these horses ran in FL this year. I think Take Charge Indy could be a nice play in the Derby to run into exotics - he doesn't have to have the lead. But the Borel factor will have him bet down after Friday's 'Louisville day at the downs"
Grace Hall over Summer Applause
Ahh, forgot to mention the elder Roy and Patricia Chapman of Smarty Jones fame. I believe he was 77 when he won The Derby in 2004 and passed away two years later.
Bodemeister, Creative Cause, Daddy Nose Best, Take Charge Indy
Already changed my long-shot picks after a few more hours of study - I like Cozzetti as the sleeper pick but think Isn't He Clever will be tough with his stalking style. Good luck all!
Fyi: Ring it Up was scratched due to fever, so you no longer get an entry with Pee H Dee (the stronger horse).
Cigar -- what a great champion. Appeared to tail off in his final few starts but I felt he had a little bad racing luck in each loss. Had the pleasure of seeing him run three times.
Not sure how many of you frequent Oaklawn, so while there won't be a "Cougar Day" per se, there are plenty of eligible ladies and dudes hanging around the second level sports bar. Seriously though, it's an extremely social place where people do care about the horses.
I agree, thought Caleb's Posse got the short-end here. The Derby is already a top prize on its own, no need to throw in an Eclipse for one win.
