Stellar Wind's half-mile work goes onto the tab at :48 2/5. First quarter in :24 1/5, three furlongs in :36 2/5, gallop out in 1:02 2/5. After the work, trainer John Sadler announces that the main reason Stellar Wind was put in the November Sale was because of "flight insurance", he also went on the record and said that the plan as of now is to still race her at age 5.
As much as I love and respect songbird- stellar wind deserves to be the favorite for the distaff. Stellar wind has put away beholder twice now- which doesn't mean that beholder has lost a step- it just means stellar wind is as good as I thought she was. A lot of people are handing the distaff to songbird but stellar wind is one nice horse. She cannot be overlooked- she ran second in last years edition after a horribly wide trip and questionable contact in the stretch, she has run two great races to beat beholder in very fast times and also proving she has heart and will to win. I think she will be close to the pace to not let songbird get away now that she has proven she isn't a one dimensional deep closer. As much as I love chrome- I am most looking forward to the distaff race out of all in this years breeders cup
Did I hear they are supplementing him to the BCC correctly? Yikes I hope not- the poor horse may finish dead last- the Santa Anita track does not play kindly to closers or plodders/grinders. Just ask Tonalist and Hoppertunity
Connect should go to Turf Paradise and have some fun if he not get lite headed from dropping in altitude
Like I said before Arrogate looks like a nice horse but he's not California Chrome. Here are the splits in each of their last races. CC's splits in the Awesome Again: (1/4) 22.76 (1/2) 46.08 (3/4) 1:09.48 (Mile) 1:34.45 Arrogate's splits in the Travers: (1/4) 23.23 (1/2) 46.84 (3/4) 1:10.85 (Mile) 1:35.52 California chrome has much faster splits and even after Victor Espinosa began holding him back after 6 furlongs California Chrome still ran a mile split one full second faster than Arrogates's mile split. Bob Baffert knows arrogate can't run with the best horse in the world.
Connect should go to Turf Paradise and have some fun
<<<---- won't chase the board----->>>will follow the Horse Shaman Ghost
I think they made the right decision. Even a competitive loss in the Dirt Mile to Dortmund would look way worse than a moderate showing in the Classic won by Chrome. Plus, Frosted is running better than he ever has and the Classic offers the bigger reward. Nothing to lose in the Classic, everything to lose in the Dirt Mile.
  • Ruffianlover · I don't think he's running better than he has- he ran better in the met mile than he did in his last two. And as much as I wanted frosted to go in theclassic- I feel bad for the horse because when he loses he will be zero for five at 10f which will always be held against him. · 1 day ago

I get a kick out of Frosted being picked as the major threat to California Chrome in the 2016 BCC. Not that I don’t like Frosted. He was my favorite 3-year-old of 2015 after Texas Red and Dortmund were injured. But, while Six of the 10 probable starters of the 2016 BCC have won at least one 1¼ mile stakes race, none of them is named Frosted. Frosted has finished 4th, 3rd, 7th (of 8 in the 2015 BCC) and 5th (2016 Dubai World Cup) and just doesn’t seem suited for the classic distance. The six who have won at 1 ¼ miles include all 4 of the 3-year-olds: California Chrome (4 wins), Melatonin (2), Effinex (2), and Hoppertunity (1), and 2 of the 3-year-olds Nyquist and Arrogate (1 each). None of the 4-year-olds in the BCC has ever won at a mile and a quarter. As far as I have been able to find, only 3 dirt horses from the 2015 crop of 3-year-olds have been won at the classic distance of 1 ¼ miles:AP (twice), Force the Pass, and Keen Ice all won at 1 ¼ miles in 2015. As far as I know, no other horse from that crop has won at the 1 ¼ mile distance. The class of 2016 also has 3 dirt horses that have won at 1 1/4 miles, Nyquist, Deauville, and Arrogate. As for the class of 2014, 6 horses won at 1 ¼ miles as 3-year-olds, Bayern, CC, Shared Belief, Effinex, Mr Speaker, Tonalist, and VE Day. Effinex won the Suburban in both 2015 and 2016, and Melatonin and Hoppertunity, won at the distance in 2016 as 5-year-olds. Through their 4-year-old season the class of 2015 won a total of 10 mile and a quarter races and added 6 more this year for a three year total of 16 wins so far at the Classic distance. Four horses from the class of 2014 ran 1 ¼ miles in under 2 minutes: Bayern, CC, and Toast of New York (who never actually won at the distance) as 3-year-olds all in the 2014 BCC and Melatonin in the 2016 Gold Cup at Santa Anita. Arrogate, of course was the fourth of the 10 in his sizzling Travers Performance. No horse from the 2015 class has run 1¼ miles in under 2 minutes. In the 2014 BCC, in a full field of 14 entries, 7 were 3-year-olds. The top 6 finishers were all 3-year-olds. In the 2015 BCC, the 3-year-olds finished 1st, 4th, 7th, and 8th while the 3 entries from the class of 2014 finished 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. Tonalist was the only horse to compete in both races and finished 5th in both races. Of course, horses don’t usually read statistics and we only have to remember how Onion and Matterhorn caused the defeat of heavily favored horses. Then again, neither is running in this year’s BCC. Probably Moanin will ship from Japan at the last minute and upset all the Americans :). Nevertheless, I'm thinking Chrome in sub 1:59.
  • Mr. Sandman via Disqus · I feel like I'm in class again. Great research ChromeSecretariat. I am with you thinking Chrome comes in under 2 minutes in first place in the BCC. · 15 hours ago

ok i try 1 Arrogate 2 Keen Ice 3 Shaman ghost grrrr hard to wait to see who is in lol
OMG OMG OMG Winx just turned in the performance of a lifetime, running away from horses as classy as Hartnell, Yankee Rose and Vadamos by 5 lengths and more. It's 7am on a Saturday morning here in the UK and I was trying not to shout too loud and wake up my neighbours, LOL.
Just one word.............................. "WOW".
Winxie does it again!! 13 in a row!!~ Over Hartnell! ;)
Id usually take this as as an opportunity to smash on people who disrespect a great horse for no good reason. But think of it like this. Its not the exactly the same as military service members for those who do put their bodies and well being on the line to protect our country, but it is in similar context to be classy and dignified in ones attitude to respect the participants of any thing that people love and participate in. It is so easy from an armchair perspective to issue arrogant, blind, and myopic criticisms, or even to take statistical angles to decipher what horse "Has no chance" versus a horse that is "Dominant". As a fan, or a bettor, or both, it is the parity of differences of horse that make equine competition such a neat thing to love or participate in. Anything can happen in horse racing. Tepin getting beat. Laoban breaking Maiden at graded stakes. Arrogate not being mentioned by ANYONE besides those who follow SoCal Racing, and destroying the Travers. The Breeders Cup races have always been known for things happening that people don't see that goes against what they know of assessing a race. Funny seeing so many who doubted the CALBRED in his three year old campaign swinging on his un-gelded future babies at this moment. Hey, Im happy that the respect finally came after calling him a wash-up after DWC of two years ago. When you have a Championship series of races, you respect ALL participants. And if someone wants to support a horse, it is no ones right to tarnish a horse or a fan, it is an honor that these horses give us such a fun and amazing sport to witness. Whether it is a horse that never wins a Maiden 20, or a horse that has a up and down record at graded stakes, or whether it is the most Dominant of Equine athletes, show respect. When you have the Pinnacle Event where the best of the best are assembled for OUR participation in you respect every and all of these Noble Participants. Because in the end, these Horses don't need us or our opinions. We are lucky to see them in such a way. We are lucky to see these horses, whether YOU think a horse deserves to race in the company of others or not. Thank God this industry is not run by peoples opinions. And thank goodness that despite what people think we get to see such races with such intrigue of talent and dedication. I love Frosted. But in the end. I am happy that ALL of these athletes will be there and only hope to see great races and a safe trip back to their feed buckets after entertaining us. We are getting to see a AWESOME time in thoroughbred racing. Appreciate all of the horses that bless us.
Is Jess's Dream going to train up to the BC classic...if not this year, maybe next year. HA! That would be a classic for the ages.

Pretty excited to see this gal run tomorrow, her debut was very impressive and she wanted more distance. New York bred filly by Curlin could be a good one.
Maybe Royal Passage to make up the Superfecta
