  • dani.pugh · I never said she was better. I said she had fight. She always did have fight, no matter when winning or losing. No matter if it was on the track or no in retirement. The point was not to say she was better, which i never did, it was to highlight that she is a fighter and always has been. If you wish to debate merits do it somewhere else, start your own thread if you like. But this is not the article for it. Have a good day. · 92 days ago ·

It was a sweltering August evening in suburban St. Louis, and I can still remember the sweat dripping from my forehead, momentarily blurring my vision from the copper chestnut beauty that was just a few feet away from me. • goblin · Lovely piece! After Itsmyluckyday's win yesterday, I thought of Lawyer Ron's beauty and especially his races as an older horse; from the beginning he had a singular vitality. When he died so suddenly, Steve Haskin of BH wrote a tribute to him that began with the words, "Lawyer Ron loved to run." I think I see that trait in Itsmyluckyday as well. If you haven't read the BH article, here it is. http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/horse-racing-steve-haskin/archive/2009/07/20/lawyer-ron-beyond-a-reasonable-doubt.aspx · 112 days ago ·

  • icyhotboo · dani.pugh, I love RTG and WD but as you pointed out it's his tactical speed that will give FL the edge. Of course having that edge is not a guarantee of anything but I'm really excited over what I perceive as an extradinary group of older horses that hasn't been seen for a while from my perspective anyway. · 246 days ago ·

  • dani.pugh · icy, I agree that this group is a very deep and talented one. I don't remember a time where the speed figures for an entire group of older males have been so consistently high. Even with some defections, I strongly believe the classic will be not only highly competitive an interesting race to handicap, but also a deep field full of talent. I cannot wait for the fall races to unfold so that we may see who will lead the division into what looks to be a very exciting race. · 245 days ago ·

  • LAZMANNICK · Good points and no argument from me Brian because I really like both these guys, but those two juvenile races were in November and the second one on the 27th, not July or even September. One thing I do like about both and their abilities to get a distance of ground is that they both broke their maidens in routes, not sprints. · 256 days ago ·

  • MattBernier · For the most part, I completely agree with you AndyScoggin. Shackleford is a huge play against for me, considering tossing him completely. At best he's a "C" (using Steve Crist ABC method). I understand the Vanderbilt was on off going, but Shack ran horribly in the Travers last year as well. Dave Grening from DRF said he didn't look as well as he normally does in his most recent work - I think he just doesn't care for the Saratoga surface. MMM will be a "B" for me in the Pick 4 Saturday. · 262 days ago ·
