  • travel_vic · interesting history about the Oaks and Derby. from Wiki: The Derby originated at a celebration following the first running of the Oaks Stakes in 1779. A new race was planned, and it was decided that it should be named after either the host of the party, the 12th Earl of Derby, or one of his guests, Sir Charles Bunbury. According to legend the decision was made by the toss of a coin, but it is probable that Bunbury, the Steward of the Jockey Club, deferred to his host. The inaugural running of the Derby was held on Thursday 4 May 1780. It was won by Diomed, a colt owned by Sir Charles Bunbury, who collected prize money of £1,065 15s. The first four runnings were contested over 1 mile, but this was amended to the current distance of 1½ miles in 1784. · 10 days ago ·

  • Sullivan · I had Bingo in his victory and soon after said he was a one hit wonder. Last night I went on coalescing and checked this horse out. He has talent. Sheriffs will just have to hope that Blueskiesnrainbows and Mucho Macho Man both go out there. Originally, Yerry said that Blue skies would miss the big cap. Now he is entering him on a speed favoring track after a hard race he is sure to be fit from and he looks like the lone speed.... I think I'm playing Blueskies to win, assuming he is entered. · 45 days ago ·

The 6 may always need 3 months off, and I know people tend to not like Parx, but it can run, and the 4Giac etc should be itm. I'm wondering if the 5 will burn itself out. Still thinking about this. It looks like this is setting up to be another really interesting prep race. It is a short field, but one that could set up several different ways. I feel that Uncle Sigh is the safe horse in here - and one that I can back. Scotland, Honorable Judge, and Classic Giacnroll will fill out my top four, but I am not sure how to place them.

  • tmallios1 · Capper how did W.S. gain on them.At the top of the stretch he was even with Cairo and a half length behind Honor Code. They all ran even in the stretch. The horse that might of secretly run a big race ,was Pletchers Intense Holiday. He was about 7 lengths off of that WALK-Athon up front. He made a big move on the turn, almost caught up to them at the sixteenth pole.If you look carefully,Wicked Strong came out and interfered with him. Personally the top 3 were not impressive at all.The dissapointing horse was Honor Code, based on the closing kick he showed his first 2 races. I would of thought he'd run away and hide going so slow thru the middle part of the race. · 121 days ago ·
