Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby)

What the Nation is saying about the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby)...

The 18th and last place finisher ran the 2013 Japanese Derby (1 1/2 miles) in 2:26.3 - Palace Malice won the Belmont in 2:30.70 - still don't know a ton about Japanese racing, but I do know that they value distance and stamina, I would love to see how they train in comparison to North American runners

  • Northport · Yes, and this year the turf was rated as firm. I just find it interesting since turf times tend to be slower, even on firmer tracks, yet there was still such a vast difference in times between the two. · 7 days ago ·

  • icyhotboo · Amazing statement, considering almost all world records at different distances are on turf. Outstanding among those broken are Dr. Fagers mile, Spectacular Bid 10f, Secretariat 12f. · 7 days ago ·

  • Protagonist · And the beat goes on, Sunday Silence was fantastic back in 1989, beating Easy Goer out of that years Derby, then his offspring were excellent and now his grandchildern, what a wonderful bloodline. · 604 days ago ·

  • annmatt · Makes one wonder just what his legacy would be had he lived a few more years! His is a record that won't be broken any time soon! Memo to American breeders: you might want to acquire a couple of Sunday's sons and daughters to fill your barns with some winners! It really is fun to read his progeny charts and see all the millionaires. Will need a currency converter to understand the amounts ($1 = 78 JPY Yen!)!! · 602 days ago ·
