What the Nation is saying about the Sweetest Chant Stakes...

Joyce Young’s 3-year-old Kentucky homebred filly Caroline Thomas, a regally-bred daughter of Giant’s Causeway out of the Grade 1 winner Bit of Whimsy, will try to earn some black type of her own when making her stakes debut in Sunday’s $100,000 Sweetest Chant Stakes at Gulfstream Park.Read More
Dayatthespa was on firm footing in Saturday’s $100,000 Sweetest Chant Stakes at Gulfstream Park Sunday, helping her to rebound from an off-the-board finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G2) in her 2011 finale with a 1 ¾ -length victory in the turf stakes for 3-year-old fillies. Sweetest Chant was a big beautiful mare, full of fire, who literally swept me off my feet. I have the greatest memories of her at the Bolero barn; and am proud to have had the honor of being her personal hotwalker in 1982.
The year 2009 will best be remembered as it pertains to the Kentucky Oaks by Rachel Alexandra’s jaw-dropping 20 ¼ length victory, but one other very significant ritual was inaugurated for the 135th running of the Kentucky Oaks. The Survivors Parade: a heartwarming march down the homestretch and past...Read More

  • KyOaksRunner · It's going to be a fantastic race, and what a great field entered in a race that honors one of the greatest 3-year-old fillies of all time. I think Kathmanblu is the class of the field though Inglorious is pretty intriguing. · 827 days ago ·

  • KyOaksRunner · Dacinginherdreams had her run completely negated by being so close up. She just barely managed to get up for second but I think she would have been a whole lot closer if she had closed from far back. Lets hope she stretches out next time. If nothing else she sure got a lot of conditioning out of the Davona Dale. R Heat Lightning ran huge! · 815 days ago ·

The Grade 3 Rachel Alexandra Stakes on Saturday has shaped up to be the deepest sophomore filly race of the year and a fantastically exciting prep for the May 6th Kentucky Oaks. The field of seven includes stakes winners Gran Lioness, Bouquet Booth and Inglorious. But all eyes will be fixed on Kathm...Read More

  • KyOaksRunner · I think Bouquet Booth is a good filly but definitely outclassed by the likes of Kathmanblu and perhaps Inglorious and Gran Lioness. She didn't beat much of note in the Silverbulletday Stakes and had to work pretty hard to to it. · 824 days ago ·

After romping to an open-length victory on dirt at Churchill Downs in her previous start, heavy favorite Kathmanblu cemented her credentials as a leading candidate for the $1-million Kentucky Oaks (G1) this spring with an easy victory on turf on Saturday in the $100,000 Sweetest Chant Stakes at Gulf...Read More
The May 6 Kentucky Oaks (G1) remains a target for the Kenny McPeek-trained filly KATHMANBLU (Bluegrass Cat), who demonstrated a clear fondness for the Churchill Downs strip last time when romping home an 8 1/2-length winner of the Golden Rod S. (G2). She'll take an untraditional route to get the Oak...Read More
Heavy rains forced Sunday’s Sweetest Chant onto the main track, but it mattered little to eventual winner Sassy Image. The daughter of Broken Vow worked-out a cozy inside trip behind the early speed before rallying through an opening on the rail en route to a 4 1/2 lengths victory. Robby Albarado w...Read More
Trainer Dale Romans got exactly what he was hoping for when entering Sassy Image, not Breeders' Cup winner Tapitsfly, in Sunday's Sweetest Chant Stakes. A lot of rain and a switch in venue from the turf to the dirt. Sweetest Chant responding with an easy and popular victory over a field that scratch...Read More
