In this race on saturday, Balance the books will be running. I looking at the way he has been handled so far this year. He has to be a candidate for 1 of the most mismanaged horses of the year. I have no problem with the connections getting derby fever early in the spring .But being a turf horse they sent him to the poly track races to accumulate points . it seems their only goal was to run in the derby and promote their public stable . here is a horsethat arguably was the best 2yo turfer in america last year. He won a G2 and a G3 . In the breeders Cup,he could of been best but had a troubled trip. As i mentioned earlier, i have no problem with derby fever, but if they truly were sincere.they should of run him on the dirt earlier. They would of found out if he could handle the dirt and how he stacked up to the competition. Here we are almost the middle of july, and this star is basically running in an overnight stake. If managed properly, he should of had G1 races in his hip pocket by now on the turf.Apparently they are now gonna roll the dice for the BC.Based on the timing of his races,he only has 1 or 2 races left til he goes for the cup.Someone may question this post and say his lack of racing so far ,maybe he wasn't the healthiest. good point, but maybe running on foreign surface to him hurt the horse.
