  • DeadHeat · Too early to tell that Brian. Out of Bounds looks like one that can handle more distance, and DD looked to have a lot more in the tank. Elusive Quality has sired some top horses at distances, just look at Raven's Pass and Smarty. QR also was grade one placed at 10f. He could go either way with Forestry, but I do believe that the UAE Derby is longer than a mile. 10f may have been to much for DC, but during his prime that speed could be carried a good ways. · 143 days ago ·

  • terri.zeitz · Check out the article in the Saratogan on Dec 7th, "Rising Stars: Discreet Dancer Dazzles in Debut", The article talks about his extremely talented and classy dam and her female family. His dam, West Side Dancer, is out of Gone West. The Gone West line has produced Excluswive Quality, Smarty Jones, Awesome Feather, and Quality Road. Tood Pletcher said Discreet D was not at all tired after a mile and can go the classic distances. Look at his dam's line to see that quality. Both he and Awesome Feather are on facebook. Pletcher has a Little Red monster in his barn. And you can only bet on him in futures, as he has 4 to 5 odds at the track in his first 2 races. · 138 days ago ·

  • MichaelPavelick · The Sham isn't the best illustration of focusing on horses with workouts close to the race, but the top 3 finishers had workouts within 4-5 days of Jan. 7th. Anything past 5 days, there could be a question if today's race is a workout instead of a all out drive. Listen to the call on Hierro. He makes his move early (merely prepping the horse) then breezes home. His last workout was 6 days before the Sham. Hierro needs graded warnings for the Derby. So look for a workout within 2-5 days before a big graded event. · 143 days ago ·

  • icyhotboo · Horse racing is the most luck dependant gambling I have ever participated in, either as an owner or bettor. As far as betting it runs in streaks as you know. That was a nice pick on the #2 Out of Bounds as I wouldn't have reversed it as I thought the #4 was by far the best. After seeing your remarks I looked a lot closer and loved the bloodlines.I also handicap a lot of races that are interesting with but no intention of betting, it's fun. • Floridaf · Dosage may not be completely valid, but, so far, I have found that it is a good indication of what a horse may or may not be capable of. Of course, like travel_vic said, once the horse proves what it can and cannot do, then throw all the theory out of the window. Ancient Rome's DP was pretty spot on when he tried to stretch out in the GP Derby. I don't mind eating my words if I'm wrong, but I'll need to see Secret Circle go the distance. Otherwise, to me, he is a sprinter trying to stretch out and he may or may not be successful. · 147 days ago ·

  • footlick · IMO, the thoroughbred needs stamina wing representation to be genetically balanced and sound. In Europe, many sprinters still have representation in their stamina wing. It helps with the durability of the horse. Hopefully breeders can use the DP to breed a balanced animal, which in turn will produce a sounder animal. · 147 days ago ·

  • humphrey · I strongly get the impression that this one could NOT win on the deeper grass surfaces which make up the majority of turf courses throughout the country. When you are running on a putting green with no moisture of springiness to it, you are essentially (as the Brits call it) running on the top of the ground....Take this one to Woodbine Arlington or Saratoga and he would likely be a regular also ran. · 502 days ago ·
