He has the tactical speed and he gets plenty of stamina especially from his BMS, Summer Squall and The Axe. I think he's starting to peak and he could run a big one come May 7th. · 312 days ago ·

  • railbird33 · Ann, you're dead on! The BC Juvenile isn't a good predictor of Derby success, in that one one- Street Sense has been successful in 25 previous champions. Also, although the last four Derby winners had two 3YO starts - that REALLY bucks history in that less than ten KY Derby winners have won on two 3 YO starts in 136 tries, and some really good horses: Point Given, Curlin, Afeet Alex, Lucking at Lucky weren't fit. I don't see a triple crown winner this year. Based on Uncle Mo's 89 Beyers in his only 3YO start- he'll have to be a super-improved horse in a twenty horse field at a mile & a quarter.   • tstoztr1 · Uncle Mo didn't break a sweat getting an 89 Beyer in the TW. Most of this year's Derby contenders are going all out to earn in the 90s. I think we'll see Mo run a low 100s in the Wood and Johnny V won't even use the whip. The key to winning the Derby is having your horse peak at the right time.   • icyhotboo · He had a perfect trip(understatement),was in against sprinters with the exception of two who made their first start of 2011,Jaycito and Awsome Patriot ,how could he look bad? Still don't know where he's at as CTTT could only bring him a mile before he was through. That left him even better than "loose on the lead" as the only horse in the race who could get the distance of 1 1/16 mile.He looked good but others still have to be heard from. · 333 days ago ·

But from what I've seen on conventional dirt thus far out of Uncle Mo, I just really don't see him getting a real stiff test until the premier Derby prep's like the Florida, Arkansas, and Santa Anita Derbies come along. Whichever one Pletcher decides to send Uncle Mo to? My gut says if he send's Uncle Mo to any of the afore mentioned? It will likely be the Florida Derby.   • ajump08 · Any word if Neil Howard's two colts, Mahcen and Wilkinson, worked together. The time was the same, and I like to know who the trainer puts on the outside in these sort of works. The one on the outside is typically the better of the two, best example of this is the Uncle Mo, Stay Thirsty tandem. The San Felipe is probably going to be the hardest prep race to handicap we've seen or will see, with a mixed combination of proven talent, unexperienced promise, early speed, and late speed. I expect the pace to be hot, probably the best case scenario for Jaycito, but he'll still have to pass a lot of very talented colts on a speed biased track. The San Felipe will probably be one of those races we will look back at this Summer and say "wow, look at all of the talent that came from that race". As for the other "real" prep this Saturday, the Tampa Bay Derby, the field is actually looking a bit weak. Again led by Brethren, and I'd say the next most likely colt to make an impact down the road is the rapidly improving Nafzger colt, Beamer. Unless Uncle Mo is forced to jump ship, it looks like it could be another walk over for Brethren. · 339 days ago ·
