The Florida Derby may have had a couple of uncharacteristically dull years, but in 2012 it looks to get back up on its feet, delivering one of, if not the best Kentucky Derby Preps this season. Read More

  • DeadHeat · Capper the only problem I have with his race is that it was run in the slop. He did run a winning race, but with his record over a dry track, I can't help but be skeptical. If that race had been over a dry track he would be right there with Reveron for me. · 61 days ago ·

  • champion2011 · According to Jeremy Plonk on drf.com: GROOVIN SOLO (Myung Kwon Cho) finished third, but had his number taken down for the incident with LIAISON, which placed him last. Regardless of the placing, this was a decent effort as he exited a mile maiden win with a much more stern test. Moving in the right direction, he’s a horse who would not be a surprise to see peaking around the Santa Anita Derby. · 110 days ago ·

  • Winplacsho · Didn't think Battle Hardened would get bet down to 9/2 from 12/1 morning line, but he ran his eye balls out from a extreme outside post in his previous race at GP. Tampa Bay Downs has long been known as the only Thoroughbred racetrack on the Gulf Coast and has had a rather colorful history. It features a one mile dirt oval and a seven furlong turf course. • Rossington · This colt is on a role, now having won 4 straight and never out of the money yet in his career. • mid0827 · Rule has put in some great efforts, and it would not surprise me to see him to continue to dominate fields going right into the Derby. But, unfortunately, game, classy frontrunners like this almost don't stand a chance in the Derby. Nearly every year, there are a few sprinters in there with no real chance, and they compromise the chances of frontrunners like this. There have been very few wire jobs in the Derby over the years, and even those came under specific circumstances. War Emblem was a horse nobody respected, and he wired the Derby the year after Monarchos won in a suicidal pace. Rule is much more likely to end up like Hard Spun or Lion Heart - flash speed, run a big race and then fight to hold on for second - than anything. · 831 days ago ·
