  • Sully · First it's naysayers commenting on how Flashback was exposed by his respectable second place finish, now it's he was pushed too hard? Athletes get injured. It's just that simple, and if he ran his respectable second with the injury, I say shame on the naysayers. · 71 days ago ·

Flashback's swift victory in the Robert Lewis Stakes brings to mind the lightly raced Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown. Is the pretty gray colt a a flash of Derby brilliance or a flash in the pan?Read More

  • buds · Flashback is a good solid horse. He does have the pedigree to make the derby field which is half the battle. I think he also has enough stamina to make the distance bred into him. Id like to see him post a +100 beyers figure in the Santa Anita Deby before I think he has a real good shot. But 2 for 2 and training strong puts him in my top 5 as of now. · 121 days ago ·

  • dipak1 · no body is at the top yet, until now it is quite open to every horses, it is only now brain storming analysis among the punters, final selection will be coming after all the prep races have done, only pedigree alone can not give the horse to win the races, lots of variable to be analysis in the selection process, so at this stage each horse has chance to win. · 120 days ago ·

There are three (3) Derby prep races on Saturday... The Withers @ Aqueduct, Robert B. Lewis @ Santa Anita and Sam F. Davis @ Tampa Downs. All 3 are graded, carry a purse of $200k and run at 1 1/16 miles, yet only 2 out of 3 award the all important "Derby Points". Read More

  • icyhotboo · "I agree 100% about picking & choosing your spots, but as a service to HRN readers, I provide my opinions on Derby preps as well as MD races. To think that in every one of those races, my opinion MUST NOT be the M/L favorite is insane."Gary Quill/Yes, your position is much different than someone making a wager only for themselves. As you stated you have other considerations which would seem apparent, but obviosly there not. After a while you'll get used to having to explain what should be an easy assumption. I'm a little tired so I didn't look at all your plays but, your selection and wagering structure on the SAM F. DAVIS was something I especially liked. Hope you don't mind, but if you did, or were to wager on that race privately (SAM F. DAVIS) without regard to your article, would you have included the superfecta? Anyway nice job. I'll keep you on my radar. · 133 days ago ·

  • marylandgq · @icyhotboo; To answer your question, YES. I play what I post, so the Sam Davis play was a nice hit. As far as SUPERFECTA's, I don't play them.... never ever! Just not my style, but thanks for pointing out that I should have had the SUPER based on the horses used in my TRI. · 129 days ago ·

Racing from New York, to Florida, to California, stakes races delivered us new favorites and there were even a few unexpected maiden and allowance winners that stamped themselves as legit. But who was the best of them all?Read More

  • DeadHeat · Mike, I'd agree with your point about Flashpoint's win looking good because he was able to hold, but do remember, his fractions were pretty much a saunter for Santa Anita. I will agree that i see a lot of talent in this group. Hoping it won't end up like last year's crop. · 135 days ago ·

  • forego139 · Love to see Mr. Baffert back in the spot light where he belongs, Louiville still is aways away but with fingers crossed we might have seen the one that will be wearing the Rose's this first Sat. in May, no one has been as impressive as this talented son of Tapit was today and will take someone coming from nowhere like he did(Flashback) or one of the other three yr. olds suddenly start to improve by leaps and bounds to compete with Flashback who IMO is the best we have seen so far going back to last yr. Stay tuned for this one. · 136 days ago ·

  • travel_vic · I recall watching in awe when Gary Stevens came over from Idaho and was leading rider for several seasons at old Longacres. One knew he was destined for better. I saw his first hundred grander at then Exhibition Park, on a Washington shipper named Prairie Breaker in the B.C. Derby 1983 edition. He came back to ride the final race when LGA closed down too. CLASS ACT. Leading rider for several seasons at Hastings, from Mexico, Mario Gutierrez, did what he does well: stole a race on the front end yesterday in a stakes at Anita. This fellow has started to have people notice him in the big leagues.....Success like that may not bring him back to Hastings, where he hooks up with leading trainer Troy Taylor and owner Glen Todd. Watch out for him, especially on the front end. · 500 days ago ·
