  • LaurieRoss · Hard Spun has a 10F winner on dirt (Questing) & Charismatic is in Japan. He has only 1 SW as a broodmare sire, and that one is a winner at 9F. 2nd damsire of Wicked Strong is With Approval, MGSW at 10 - 12F. Candy Ride has no 10F SW over dirt. Storm Cat is the damsire of 3 SW at 10F over dirt. 2nd damsire Grenfall failed to win 2x at 10F, as did his daughters' best offspring (Twilight Agenda). There's more stamina on Wicked Strong's bottom line than Shared Belief's. I agree that Hard Spun isn't a true 10F horse, but under the right cirmstances, he can sire a 10F horse. · 97 days ago ·

  • tmallios1 · Capper how did W.S. gain on them.At the top of the stretch he was even with Cairo and a half length behind Honor Code. They all ran even in the stretch. The horse that might of secretly run a big race ,was Pletchers Intense Holiday. He was about 7 lengths off of that WALK-Athon up front. He made a big move on the turn, almost caught up to them at the sixteenth pole.If you look carefully,Wicked Strong came out and interfered with him. Personally the top 3 were not impressive at all.The dissapointing horse was Honor Code, based on the closing kick he showed his first 2 races. I would of thought he'd run away and hide going so slow thru the middle part of the race. · 118 days ago ·

In a strangely run race, Honor Code persevered after being overtaken in the stretch, and fought back powerfully on the rail to nail Cairo Prince by a nose in the Remsen Stakes.Read More

  • LAZMANNICK · On the surface it looked like a plodding type of race, especially when they stopped the teletimer in 1.52.95 for 9F. However, when looking at the splits it was an entirely different matter. Honor Code ran his first 5F in 1.05.19 and 6F in 1.17.56 mainly because the pace-setter dictated the early fractions. That was probably the reason why he was up so close to the pace. Honor Code came home his final 6F in a much faster 1.11.92, final 5F in 59.83, final 3F in 35.36 and final furlong in 11.70 (which extrapolates to a final 2F in 23.43). For this he received a Beyer of 88, which IMO shows the fallacy that Beyers sometimes present. This was a much better race than an 88 Beyer would indicate. When looking at the actual race time fractions for the three 9F stakes, the Demoiselle, Comely and Remsen, the first 4F in the Demoiselle were in 50.65 and the final 3F in 37.17; Comely in 48.04 and 37.94; and Remsen in a much slower 52.74 and much faster 35.36. Honor Code proved himself today with a guy performance, ran unhurried but up close to a dawdling pace, and then powered home in fast time which compares very favorably to the extrapolated final 3F of 37.09 in the Cigar. He should now be the early favorite for the Derby and unlike some of the early Derby favorites in the past few years, he looks very legitimate. · 134 days ago ·

I am going to try to match a brand of cigar to each of the hroses and guests will pull out a cigar with either the Remsen or Cigar Mile and a number. That will be their horse and if they win they keep the 50% of the pool with the other 50% going to either Wounded Warrior or Fisher House. · 151 days ago ·

  • Mike in SB · I don't believe racing as a 2 year old hurts a horse's chances in the big races as a 3 year old. If you look at the champion 2 year olds in the pre lasix past, most had great 3 year old seasons, including all the Triple Crown winners from the 1970's. I believe the main difference is the Breeders Cup. It takes a different kind of horse to win the Juvenile, many winners are early developing speed horses. When the races get longer the next year, these horses have trouble competing with the top colts. · 168 days ago ·
