  • ILuvTurfRacing · @BrianZipse, I thought Excelebration's win today in the QE II Stakes was one of, if not the most impressive performance on the Champions Day card. Can't wait to see Excelebration and Wise Dan go at each other in the BC Mile. But I warn those who think Wise Dan will win the BC Mile easily that Excelebration's of much higher class and ability than the horses Wise Dan's been beating in America. It's fair to say Excelebration beat Cityscape today at Ascot just as impressively as Wise Dan beat him at Woodbine, IMO. · 544 days ago ·

  • rossington · I haven't heard officially one way or the other if Henry Cecil and Prince Khalid Abdullah intend to make the trek to Churchill Downs with Frankel in 3 weeks time for the BC Mile or not? But regardless whether Frankel shows up for the race or not? He's left little doubt that he's the best turf miler in the world by a street this year. If he does show up for the BC Mile? My advise to everyone is to lump on big. Because with no disrespect intended to Goldikova or Freddie Head, Frankel could likely stop halfway through the race to take a p-ss, and still beat Goldikova with a fare bit in hand. • medlocke · @woodbinemile, At their best, I think both Immortal Verse and Dick Turpin are really good turf milers. But Frankel's really in a category all his own. I think Immortal Verse is likely to find out the hard way that beating Goldikova over a mile like she did in the Prix Jacques Le Marois is a different proposition altogether than trying to beat to Frankel over a mile? • medlocke · I just finished watching an interview with Sir Henry Cecil that's posted on the Racing Post web-site. Cecil was interviewd by Racing Post while they were showing footage of work's for Frankel, Twice Over, and Midday in prepartion for the Champion's Day card at Ascot coming up in October. Cecil had this to say about Twice Over and Midday, and I quote: There was little between the two on the day in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York that we've decided to run the two together again in the G1 Champion Stakes. That race will be Twice Over's final race before he's reitred to stud. Because he doesn't go well enough on conventional dirt to bring him over for the BC Classic. The Champion Stakes could also possibly be Midday's final race? Although she does have an entry for the BC F&M Turf, and we're going to see first how well she comes out of the race at Ascot before we decide whether or not she'll go to Churchill Downs? If Midday does go to the BC F&M Turf? That will be her final race, for sure. End quote!! · 934 days ago ·

  • Rossington · @mary.schweitzer, That's correct!! It was on England's Racing Post web-site this morning that Aidan O'Brien intends to send Cape Blanco back to America to run in the G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont on Oct. 2nd. The Joe Hirsch being 1-1/2 race should put Cape Blanco spot on for this year's Breeders Cup Turf. Likely Clement will send Winchester out after Cape Blanco instead of Gio Ponti this time. The race being 1-1/2 instead of 1-1/4. · 955 days ago ·

  • mshutty · Did get to see the impressive victory posted by Rip Van Winkle in the Juddmonte. Quite a performance and he looks better than ever. Certainly the one to beat tomorrow. Seems the C team from Europe have been handling the A team from North America pretty well this past Summer. Imagine what their A and B teams will bring come Breeders Cup. • medlocke · Great race in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot today. Race favorite, and 2009 Q.E.II winner, Rip Van Winkle, was beaten in an extremely tight photo finish by the Godolphin colt Poet's Voice. Poet's Voice came into the race off of a win at Goodwood in the G2 totesport.com Celebration Mile. Rip Van Winkle won the G1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York back in August. Against a stellar field of competition. Defeating 3rd place finisher in the 09' Classic, Twice Over, by a nose. But Rip Van Winkle has since been well beaten by his stablemate, Cape Blanco, in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown, and in today's Q.E.II Stakes at Ascot. Cape Blanco is the Ballydoyle 3yr.old who has won the G2 Dante Stakes at York. The G1 Irish Derby at the Curragh. And was 2nd to Harbinger in the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. Trainer Aidan O'Brien commented after Rip Van Winkle's loss in the Q.E.II today that "they will have to sit down and evaluate whether or not to send Rip back to America for this year's Breeders Cup." I think it's much more likely that we're going to see his stablemate, Cape Blanco, in this year's Classic instead. The Irish Champion Stakes is a "Breeders Cup Challenge win and your in" race. So Cape Blanco already has the automatic victory to gain entry into the Classic. Cape Blanco destroyed Rip Van Winkle, Twice Over, Sea Lord, Beethoven, and Famous Name in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes. Rip Van Winkle finished a very distant 2nd to his stablemate in that race, with Twice Over a distant 3rd. · 1300 days ago ·
