No matter what happens in tomorrow’s Arima Kinen, Orfevre will be remembered as one of Japan’s greatest horses of recent years.Read More
  • Ann Maree · Thanks for covering the Japan racing scene, Brian. It will be exciting to see if Orfevre can go out a winner, but no matter what, he is a champion and his legacy is assured with Sunday Silence's blood running through is veins! · 117 days ago ·

It's decided, we will cross off a big racing bucket list item ... The big question is; Ascot or the Arc?Read More

  • jdas1 · Ascot will cost (bring a suit). Arguably Longchamp more championship type races cadran (20F), arc (12F), l'abbeye (5F) & foret (7F) + Opera for Fillies 10F on same day at end of the season. However Ascot is 5 days (cost ~£300 just to get in all days) best day Tuesday. Sat at Longchamp is 4 or 5 Group 2s. A cheaper option for Ascot is British champions day but not fully developed yet but has seen some superb stuff like Cirrus 3 runs. Longchamp also can clash with JCGC/Awesome Again day else Shadwell/Spinster weekend -> when I attended those 2 weekends clashed with Arc. All good trips. · 121 days ago ·
  • amino998 · Lots of good advice here, Zipse. Don’t let missing/not missing a week of school sway you and don’t forget to mix in a little business and write the outlay off. It’s even More fun that way :) · 121 days ago ·

  • yukichan · Thank you Doug for reminding and/or educating us of these two remarkable horses from a previous era. I have no doubt that we see an Arc winner from Japan one day soon. After all we still have Gentildonna (Deep Impact)! Until then, Gambatte! · 192 days ago ·
  • Northport · great article! I haven't ever heard of Silence Suzuka, but he had quite the remarkable, yet short lived career. Shame to see his end :( · 192 days ago ·

  • Euro Trash · @ILuvTurfRacing, yes. Criquette has said that previously, but it is a knife edge decision to wait until 4 yrs old, as many of the top 3 yr old fillies do not progress as 4 yr olds so they lose that weight advantage and then do not do as well. I think even with her inexperience, running as a 3 yr old is the best way to go if she is good enough. · 195 days ago ·

Looks to be a stellar Arc this year with Orfevre, Kizuna, Treve, Novellist, Ruler of the World doing so well in the preps.....
Declaration of War came, he saw and he conquered in accounting for his five rivals with the utmost ease to win going away in the Group 1 Juddmonte International at York. Read More
  • ILuvTurfRacing · If Coolmore run Declaration of War in the BC Classic I think it gives them the best chance of winning the race they've had when the venue has been held on conventional dirt since Giant's Causeway in 2000. DOW's pedigree suggest he should go well on dirt, and I'm convinced 10f suits this horse even better than a mile does. I would like DOW chances of beating the horses lining up for the BC Classic over trying to beat Wise Dan in the BC Mile. JMO. · 238 days ago ·

World came out earlier today that after his win in the G1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes today at Sandown, Al Kazeem and G1 Prix Du Jockey Club winner, Intello, have been made 6-1 ante-post co-favorites for the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in October. IMO, 6-1 looks a big price for both of these horses given their current level of form. I don't think there's any doubt that Intello will be the most talented 3yo heading to Longchamp by a street, and Al Kazeem has proven he stays 12f long before he ever started his current 4 race win streak at 10f.

  • shadowno · IHB hit the Game on Dude issue spot on. He is getting a bit long in the tooth and more to the point is a gelding so winning the Whitney or any other eastern race is of little long term signiigance. Much wiser to run a Big Cap, Californian, HGC, Pacific Classic campaign leading into the BCC than amass frequent flyer miles. Add to the fact while obviously a top 10 handicap horse, he is not a "name" that will bring people out to any major track. It is a no-brainer to keep doing exactly what his connections have been doing. · 420 days ago ·
  • On The Gallop's · Shadowno- I guess you missed the part where I said 3-4 top races are in england and one in France. The Champions stakes is an Extremely important race and skipping the ARC for the Champions stakes is not a step down quality wise. · 408 days ago ·

  • karen.sweatman.9 · If my comments were clear, I wouldn't have been deemed a "hater", huh, referring to Frankel, I presume? Must be why every square inch of my home has a horse photo or painting covering it. I despise Frankel so much that I just purchased another portrait of him. As for my comment concerning Danedream not liking Japan and sushi, that was intended to be light humor directed at her poor performance in last year's Japan Cup, but somehow it was twisted into me being prejudice against the Japanese, OUCH! Some of you people are thinking too hard. Guess I'll take this as a lesson in communication. · 555 days ago ·
  • footlick · If you can't comprehend your own statement as to how you would LOVE to see this horse prove that Frankel is not the second coming of Christ would lead people top believe you were not fond of Frankel, then I can't help you. My only other conclusion is that you want to be controversial. There is nowhere in that statement that shows any liking of Frankel. Maybe you just want attention, and unfortunately by commenting I'm feeding it. Your statement was very clear, very pointed and not supportive or showing of any liking of Frankel. If you can't comprehend that, then maybe you do need a lesson in communication. Have a great day · 555 days ago ·
