Do you remember the last time a horse won the Santa Anita Derby in his seasonal debut? No? I didn’t either. It just doesn’t seem like the kind of thing many horsemen would try to do. Then again, Bob Baffert is not your average, run of the mill thoroughbred horse trainer, and this rather unlikely fea...Read More

  • Trackside · I have nothing agaisnt Power Broker, but I think the Wood memorial would have been the better spot to run than the S.A. Derby. Sure, he would have to go up againnst Verrazano, but P.B. wouldn't have to deal with nearly the amount of other speed horses that he will in santa Aniat. Going 9 furlongs off a substantial layoff isnt easy for any horse, but doing it against what appears to be an unfavorable race setup is even harder. Nice colt, but this is really a tough spot for him to return. · 43 days ago ·

  • seattleslewgal345 · I would still give Know More a chance. Winning a graded stakes the first time out and placing 2nd in two grade 1 races is nothing to sneeze at. I think as long as he continues to train on the dirt, he will get better. Even Leandro Mora said that previously before the Frontrunner, Know More had not trained or raced on the dirt (while Power Broker had run on the dirt for some time). But like it was mentioned in the article, the juvenile is anyones game at this point in time. · 229 days ago ·

  • seattleslewgal345 · I want to see if Know More can redeem himself in this race. I think the longer distance will benefit him. As for Bafferts colts; most of them, besides Rolling Fog and *maybe* Carving, seem to be pretty average to me. · 240 days ago ·

  • seattleslewgal345 · Floridaf, I too think he is that good. To me, he comes off as one of those who will improve and get better. Forget about Know more's connections, and just focus on the colt and what he has shown us so far. And no, I am not going to jump on the Shanghai Bobby bandwagon. Forget about that, it's not happening. he may be undefeated, but give him factors. Give him problems. Make him go the distance, and make him run into troubles, and then lets see how he comes out of it. · 243 days ago ·
