What the Nation is saying about the Louisiana Derby...

As one of the finest trainers going, Larry Jones knows good horseflesh when he sees it, so when he says he’s very happy with a young horse this time of year, it makes sense to listen. Clearly Havre de Grace, likely to be rewarded with the Horse of the Year in a matter of days, is the stable star, bu...Read More

  • 12thCrown · I think FG spacing the race as is hurts their chances for top contenders. Very few will wheel back for another race like Nehro did last year. But it's shocking they don't draw better candidates with the $1 million purse! I love visiting that track... can't believe Asmussen is heading west this winter. · 42 days ago ·

Unfortunately, I was so preoccupied with the jockey screw job that I was unable to get too excited about the Preakness. Well, it was either that or the fact that I did not fully believe my horse of choice would make an appearance in the winner’s circle. But fear not, I have bounced back to get excit...Read More

It happens every single year, people see a hot new closer running on late to just barely miss, and then they go hog wild over him. For this year’s Derby, that horse’s name would be Nehro.Read More

  • blooy · psh nehor was a tough bastard, this was the extra room he needed, and the jockey really blew it, bad timing. you know he comes from out of the clouds not on turn, not sure what happend there. we saw it all the time down the strech near miss by nehro, then he makes the move on the turn, wait man, you fly on the strech. had they went on the strech, like animal kindom , could have been closer. but thats horse racing, guess a spoiler for the belmont? those closers all on timing, still congrats to him . · 267 days ago ·

  • BrianDougherty · Last time out he seemed like he was starting to suck air pretty hard at about 1 1/16. I don't see him holding on the whole 1 1/4. Look for him in the 8-10 spot after he dies back from 4th or 5th. · 281 days ago ·

  • woodbinemile · Mucho can definitely get 1 1/4, and probably up to a 1 1/2. Ever since he switched to 2 turns he has gotten better and better. I have NO DOUBT he beats POF, and Nehro in the Louisiana Derby if he had 4 shoes, and what he showed in the Risen Star should be the blueprint as to what he will do to the Derby field turning for home. @ 1 1/4 Dialed in will not get to him, and Nehro , and all the other pretenders will have to just accept that :) · 280 days ago ·

  • railbird1 · That long stretch at CD won't hurt his chances either. I think he has a decent shot considering his improving pattern and the increase in distance. Picking this years winner is going to be tough any way you look at it. The main saving grace being the price should be right on whoever you settle on. It will be a fun race to watch with the outcome so up for grabs. That being said a serious wager on this years Derby seems out of the question unless you're just a gambler. Good luck to all. · 285 days ago ·
