What the Nation is saying about the July Cup...

Sprinting isn't something us British have been particularly good at in the past. We enjoy it, and our attempts at soaring towards the top are most certainly commendable, but we ultimately flounder as our athletes are transformed into trees rooted to the spot by nations whom continue to transform com...Read More
In as open a July Cup there has been for years, it was Richard Fahey's Mayson who triumphed in atrocious conditions at Newmarket to gain a first British Group 1 win for both Fahey and jockey Paul Hanagan in a fantastic front running performance. Weather conditions played havoc with entries on Saturd...Read More
You wouldn't mistake him for a horse with the ability to rival the likes of Black Caviar or Frankel but what he does have is unparalleled determination and a adoration for Newmarket. Winning his maiden there as a longshot in 2010, he has since returned for three further successes over the Newmarket ...Read More
  • yukichan · He has his work cut out for him in the July Cup, facing the likes of bated Breath and Society Rock again. And then there are the Aussie invaders with whom my alliance still lies. I am looking for Sepoy and Ortensia to run big. July Cup is chock full of talent. Libranno included, and will be exciting to watch! BTW, I added a nice photo of Libby. · 649 days ago ·

They say perfection is unattainable, and as a practicing golf instructor, I’m inclined to agree, but maybe even if this is the sad reality for the human race, we can still strive to find perfection within our world. Perhaps a glimpse of our unattainable will be in store for us tonight when Black Cav...Read More

  • New York Vinnie · If you think that ten races is ignorant then just look at the list by Bloodhorse. As far as I can gather there is just one horse, #94 Artful (1902) that raced less than ten races. All other horses raced at least ten races. · 785 days ago ·

The 2010 Dubai Golden Shaheen winner is well-respected as the third choice in the market for Friday’s Darley July Cup (G1) at Newmarket, a race shaping up as a rematch of the Golden Jubilee (G1) from the Royal Ascot meet.  While it was clear the Carl O’Callaghan trained American-bred Dubai winn...Read More

  • medlocke · I followed the whole Royal-Ascot meet very closely with great enthusiasm this year. Let me offer congratulations to Kinsale King. America's best 6 furlong sprinter, without question. Kinsale King made his first career start on turf at Ascot in the Golden Jubilee Stakes. He ran a blazing race, right at the front, for the entire 6 furlongs and was right there at race's end with a legit shot to win. Amazing for a first start on turf. Especially at Ascot. A track that can be very difficult to win over. Kinsale King was beaten only by Ballydoyle's new superstar, Starspangledbanner and Society Rock. Ultimately finishing 3rd of 24 starters. The Golden Jubilee Stakes winner, Starspangledbanner, had recently clocked a 9 second furlong in training. Ballydoyle's top trainer, Aiden O'Brien remarked that Starspangledbanner was the first horse he's ever trained to accomplish such a feat. Kinsale King put forth an awesome effort. Finishing ahead of noted sprinters like the Irish filly, Fleeting Spirit. Also, War Artist, Prime Defender, Total Gallery, Main Aim, and Showcasing. He's now going to stay in the UK and target the Darley July Cup as his next goal. Starspangledbanner is a colt that's going to be awfully difficult to beat. But Kinsale King's sprinting ability more than gives him an adequate shot. The only sprinter to date, anywhere else in the world that I've seen any faster than Starspangledbanner is Hong Kong's Sacred Kingdom. Who I believe is the world's best over 6 furlongs, bar none.
