What the Nation is saying about the Jim Dandy ...

He can beat two Triple Crown race winners and the Haskell winner in one race. He can beat the horse that went on to win the Wood Memorial. He can beat the winner of the Dwyer Stakes. Stay Thirsty is not the Rodney Dangerfield of the Pletcher barn, he is the Rodney Dangerfield of racing. Read More

  • DeadHeat · Winplacsho, I have to disagree. The Travers has more prestige and hold more value in the year end votes than either the Preakness or the Belmont. People favor it because it's Classic distance of 10f, a distance Shackleford never won at. Also, while Shackleford is a gutsy and admirable horse, he did not "take his show on the road." He has two wins this year, on in allowance company, the other in the Preakness, and he never could return to that winning form. He was well beaten in his last three races, as he was in the FOY, The Derby, and Belmont. He was at every dance, but like First Dude last year, there are two many beats to be a champion. Caleb excelled mainly at Saratoga, however his big win at Churchill demonstrates he is probably not just a Saratoga freak. Based on merits, it's Caleb's award. However, if the stigma comes out, and he should not receive the award, Stay Thirst did the most of the Classic runners. · 161 days ago ·

“Rest in Peace, Kensei.” I saw those words last week on Facebook, and my heart just sank. Kensei had been a horse that I watched and admired for the better part of four seasons, and in the time that it took me to read four simple words, I knew he was gone. Kensei was a five-year-old son of Mr. Greel...Read More

  • DeadHeat · Thirst has had the talent all along and had very good reasons for his subpar performances. As I said, being by Bernardini, who is by AP Indy I would expect him to get better as the year goes on and as the distances stretch. Now it is time to see what goes on in the Haskell. IMO the only horse that can win there and be of a threat to him in the Travers would be Ruler on Ice. · 304 days ago ·

  • icyhotboo · I don't see that as a new look as he always had width it's his speed that concerns me as he seems to be the one if the track is off but on a fast track I have doubts.I personally like Dominus, my son who seems to have the ability to spot the best via video likes BS. He is a successful professional gambler but really doesn't have an intest in racing.I don't know how but he can select winners just by watching them move.If I bet I'll use his pick with mine.GL to you. · 305 days ago ·

  • LAZMANICK · DeadHeat……….I’m not trying to argue with you and I’m no saying that you commented one way or another. I just wondered if you had ever heard of anyone calling the Travers Saratoga’s signature race. Regarding the fields for the Haskell. They seem to be getting deeper with talent in the past few years than they used to be and I think that one reason is the 9F distance. I also agree with Mike that the Travers is the greatest race for three year olds outside the Triple Crown. The Haskell to me has always been like a Blue Grass or a Florida Derby or a Wood Memorial, a top G1, but not on the same level as the TC races and the Travers. · 308 days ago ·

  • DeadHeat · I have heard it called that and I most certainly believe in that name. However, I would disagree with you on the level of the Haskell. I would actually liken it to the Preakness, the baby child when standing next to the Derby which has so much age and prestige. While it still draws some wonderful deep and talented fields, it in no way can be called equal to the Derby. · 308 days ago ·
