Shaman Ghost, winner of the 2015 Queen's Plate, came out of the race in good shape and will likely make his next start in the July 28th Prince Of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie, becoming the first Queen's Plate winner to attempt to win the 2nd leg of the Canadian Triple Crown since 2010. Trainer Brian Lynch says as long as he is happy and healthy , he will try to win the Prince of Wales and attempt to become the 13th Canadian triple crown winner, saying he believes he has the horse to do it. I don't see AP going to the PA Derby. Like several on here have said it just simply doesn't make any sense logistically or competitively. I honestly think though that if everything goes to plan Zayat and Baffert plan to send him to the Travers over JCGC. Traditionally the Travers is the most important race outside of the TC and BC and Saratoga can put on a big show for AP (that tracks gorgeous). Zayat has made it clear besides the horses well being that this is most important to him. Belmont for the JCGC would be arguably better for his legacy than the Travers with older horses but not enough to make up for the greater risk of him losing. Their would be substantive benefit to AP winning the Travers as well. The Travers is something only one TC winner has won and classics in Saratoga in general have been the bane of elite horses for literally almost a century. This allows him to write off a loss more easily (if secretariat can do it, he can do it too) Making the turn around for the Travers is very difficult but Baffert's best horse (before AP) Point Given was sent to both and won both. I would personally prefer AP to go to the JCGC(I would be able to attend) which is itself prestigious. I just don't think his connections will send him. AP's run at Belmont already and self declared horse racing ambassador Zayat from the lookd of things wants to keep brining him to new tracks that can put on a party. Belmont would make a huge deal for AP like any track but not more than Stakes day. From experience 120,00 people confined in Belmont park isn't a great experience and the JCGC would do fine without AP anyway. Saratoga seems to be what Zayat is looking for. If AP isn't ready for the Travers IMO it's more likely they just retire him rather then run him elsewhere.
Chitu, a speedy colt who pushed the early pace in the 2014 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), has been retired, according to trainer Bob Baffert. Baffert said the decision was made to retire the 4-year-old son of Henny Hughes because he would be unable to get back to the same level at which he competed before developing an ankle problem following a third-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind winner Shared Belief, in the Malibu Stakes (gr. I) last Dec. 26. While there has been some interest, Baffert said there has been no commitment on where the colt will stand at stud. Article on bloodhorse
Triple Crown winner American Pharoah continued to prep for the William Hill Haskell Invitational (gr. I) with a half-mile work in :47 3/5 at Santa Anita Park July 6. The work, which followed a three-furlong work in :36 2/5 June 26 in his first breeze since winning the June 6 Belmont Stakes presented by DraftKings (gr. I), was the co-seventh-fastest of the day among 50 working that distance July 6. "He was just cruising out there," Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert said. "He looks good. Based on this work, it looks like he has not been affected by the 3 races and back in form. Article on bloodhorse
Top Billing worked 4f, July 6th, in 48:55 (b) finishing 4/25.
Shared Belief needs to practice his rating skills. Getting crossed over by other horses in a race like Breeders is no excuse for losing. It takes skill to get through the pack and if he can do that he can be more consistent. Otherwise he may never recover to his best and beat other horses with better rating skills.

  • MaryZinke via Disqus · "You saw what happened." In case you didn't, if you were busy making bizarre comments under many usernames or working on World Peace or whathaveyou, stretch your arms out all the way to each side, really far. Really reach. Did that? Okay. I doubt you could fit your outstretched hands around Bayern's huge-normous be-hind. And the rest of his body is huge too. That is what smonched the little Shared Belief. The foreign colt came over too. Do you control the car that crashes into you or is it your fault for not driving like a stunt man to avoid the crazies? Rating skills? I did not know they made liquor with that high of an octane. Shared Belief when not mortally smonched or otherwise seriously injured, bides his time but stays in range, even when maneuvered wide. Was it 8 wide at one point of the Awesome Again? Forgive me if I exaggerated, but I wouldn't think you'd mind. Then he kicks away. So who has these better rating skills? Come back with responses and a new name. Don't worry. I'll know ya. · 2 days ago

I think a lot of folks have dismissed Coz way too quickly. Now I'm not saying he's the next coming, but I think he'll carve out a nice career. These connections are true horse people, he's very ready for Wednesday, good spot for him. Being such a well bred horse, he's running against other top class maidens. He will never get a chance to be anything less than great, I'm encouraged his team thinks he has it in him.

Trainer Olly Stevens has said that Lightning Spear has been entered in the G2 Summer Mile at Ascot. It'll be a step up for the unbeaten colt, but if they do choose to run him in the Summer Mile it should be interesting to see how he fares.
