Debut winner at 99-1!
anyone heard anything?
From this morning's Racing Post web-site: Last year's G1 English St Leger winner, Harbour Law, who just ran a highly creditable 3rd behind Big Orange & Order of St George in the G1 Ascot Gold Cup was found to have suffered a sever tendon injury following the race which will end his 2017 flat season. Trainer Laura Mongan told the Racing Post, "after being on such a high last Thursday, it was devastating on Friday to find the injury." "But we have to be positive, it's not career ending, and we can get him back if we do everything right and look after him."
Apparently, TimeformUS ratings are changing over time. Take Bayern for example, according to timeformus, Bayern improved by over 3 lengths from the same race (the 2014 BCC) for no particular or official reason. It seemed that many races in the fall 2014 at Del Mar and Santa Anita are now getting a huge boost in rating (the only changes I could find were that those tracks underwent some changes during or around the fall of 2014). Bayern's 2014 BCC TFUS = 119 in 2014 https://www.tvg.com/blog/2014/11/05/timeformus-speed-figures-week-ending-november-2-breeders-cup-edition/ Bayern's 2014 BCC TFUS = 126 now. https://timeformus.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/screen-shot-2015-08-04-at-8-35-55-pm.png
Ran into a buzzsaw in Timeline, but has a future in G3 and ungraded stakes races in NY/NJ/PA. Should be able to win a few hundred thousand if he stays healthy.
I am not one who really cares about these type rankings because I feel it is really impossible to compare horses from different eras. Man O' War was dead long before Secretariat, Seattle Slew was dead a decade before American Pharoah was born. It is fun to do, but in my mind there are the Elite Super horses, Super horses, Great horses and very good horses. I feel the Triple Crown Winners are in the Elite Super horses with Man O' War. Super horses like Sunday Silence and Easy Goer, and Great horses are Ferdinand, Exceller, Silver Charm and such. I was born two days before a horse that won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes and is in the Hall of Fame so I have a special love for him.
Runhappy is in the stall that was the home of Bold Ruler, Secretariat, Easy Goer, and Unbridled. I can't think of a finer honor to him than him being in that famous stall.
Rest in peace Malibu Squeeze........a beautiful filly by Malibu Moon out of an Unbridled Song mare, just 3yrs young, how could a horse be severely lame at age 3, doesn't make sense, but I'm sad for you, very sad to hear the news today, God Bless your soul <3
Still active...yah...where is he now!! ??
Glad to see she's back to racing! She finished 2nd today.
I hope they send him to Del Mar for the BCC, it's near his home.
I heard that Gold Dream is being considered for the BCC.
This horse is amazing! We will be seeing a lot from him!
  • pointgiven23 via Disqus · Keep in mind he only ran slightly faster then his 1st start. He was super impressive yesterday and sprinting most likely will be his game (based on pedigree). I was surprised he ran back so quickly from his debut but obviously the 1st start helped him a lot against this field. · 9 hours ago
Owned by Peachtree Stables; sired by Algorithms, Okla bred. Serengeti broke his maiden today at SA with Mike Smith aboard.
Trainer Aidan O'Brien told the Racing Post over the weekend that Epsom Derby 2nd, Cliffs Of Moher, will not be running in next Sunday's G1 Irish Derby at the Curragh. He will instead be sent to Sandown to contest the G1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes over the 2 furlong shorter trip the following Saturday on July 8th.
  • pointgiven23 via Disqus · Interesting decision seems how 12f was just hitting him in the face at Epsom. Maybe he's versatile enough or they have a lot of confidence in him since his upset win. Can never discount anything O'Brien does these days but I would be under the impression the drop in distance is maybe a disadvantage for him. We'll see what lines up against him at Sandown · 9 hours ago
If you get the chance, read my Friend Lou Cauz's great book on the Plate. He is the director, emeritus of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame. He put in almost 4 years tracking down all the remaining data on the various runnings. It used to be in heats, and for a very long time was only open to maidens from Upper Canada. https://books.google.com/books/about/The_Plate_a_Royal_Tradition.html?id=hY_phCAhxcQC
Don't dismiss the early ones. Last year's the winner (Dudley Diggs) had the best f1 velocity in the race. TJ's Lucky Moon (wired at a huge mutuel) and many others who hit the board were earlier horses. NOT since the fillies dominated (Lexie Lou and Inglorious) has late speed been the prominent factor. Midnight Aria, Strait of Dover, Mike Fox, even Wando was earlier than most.....Few colts mover up from the top of the lane to the wire, FEW In Mike Fox's Plate the top three SECOND CALL colts ran 1 2 3
Sorry but Collected could only warm up Arrogate if that. How soon they forget!!
Prior to Royal-Ascot, I was thinking a Churchill vs. Ribchester duel on the downs at Goodwood in the G1 Sussex Stakes would be interesting race. But after fluffing his lines in the St James's Palace Stakes and frankly looking very vulnerable in that race, I can't help but wonder now if a Ribchester vs. Winter head to head match-up in the Sussex Stakes might not be a more appealing proposition? That's assuming that Aidan O'Brien decides to continue campaigning her at a mile? Winter has a lot of speed in the dam side of her pedigree, so I'm not sure if she'd get 12f or not, but after watching her performance in the Coronation Stakes I would feel very confident in saying she'd get 10f standing on her head, which makes the G1 Pretty Polly Stakes in Ireland and/or the G1 Nassau Stakes at Goodwood possible targets for her also, one would imagine.
  • pointgiven23 via Disqus · Churchill is better then his last, even in defeat he was only 3-4 lengths behind while never seriously challenging. Just wasn't his day it looked. Winter has really ascended but I don't think she could beat Ribchester at this time. By season's end that could change but if they do face each other at Goodwood that will be something to see. · 9 hours ago
What do you guys think of his first work? He look's fast
