Older Comments about the Grey Stakes...

There are odd situations that abound in stakes races. When Bid had his walkover in the Woodward, owner Meyerfoff was upset that the full purse value was not avilable for him but is always reduced buy 50% in the event of a walkover. Yesterday and odd happening cost a baby two year old some money. The field for the Grey a two year old graduation stakes (stretching out) did not have too many to start, but with the late defection of the 7/2 2nd choice Matador lowered the field to 4 runners, JUST enough to cover the purse distribution in this race. It was obvious from the start that the post time favorite, Give No Quarter was NOT going to run a lick. He steadily dropped back, with, however, NO signs of distress. As they came down the lane, the rider slowed this one to a crawl yet still no signs of problem...The outrider, with only about 30 feet to go to the line, grabbed the bridle and thereby NEGATED the horse's entire effort by disqualifying this horse as bein aided in his run....THIS time the money lost between 4th place finish and DNF what the chart now says, was only about $450. but that is still an unnecessary screw up.
