What the Nation is saying about the Garden City...

After her neck winning thriller over Theyskens’ Theory in Saturday’s Garden City Stakes (Gr. I), I began to ponder about all of the grey and roan thoroughbreds out there today. The greats usually come few and far between but last couple years have proven different as there are a handful of them whic...Read More

  • yukichan · It is unlikely that a much anticipated match up between Black Caviar and Sepoy will happen this spring campaign (as in Southern Hemisphere spring). Sepoy will run in the G2 Caulfield Sprint on Caulfield Cup Day--the goal is the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on October 29. BC will run in the G2 Schweppes Stakes on Cox Plate Day, and in the G1 Patinack Farm Classic two weeks later at Flemington on November 5. You must check out Sepoy's win in the Manikato Stakes (G1) against older horses. Missed the start, yet won so impressively! · 237 days ago ·

  • zxswordxz · What a freaking horse....This horse should have never lost the Lade Placid. Too much power. I love the look Castellano give Theysken Theory when he was about to pass it. It was like he was saying, sorry I'm going to pass you and there is nothing you can do. · 254 days ago ·

  • BrianZipse · The QE II is the best, of her age group, plus it always attracts a few Europeans. We may all be a little disappointed that it will be her last race of her year, but this is a filly that will not be retired anytime soon. How would you like to see a more mature Winter Memories running at four and maybe five? · 254 days ago ·

  • BrianAppleton · @medlocke - I think Theysken's Theory has a good chance to hit the board, but I wasn't able to see replays of her races in Europe so I can't say too much about her chances back here. I don't like that she hasn't had a race in the US to "warm up" and is jumping straight into a Grade 1. I'd be surprised to see her win but I do on the other hand agree completely on her breeding...excellent pedigree! · 257 days ago ·

  • medlocke · To my mind, Winter Memories is the class of the American turf fillies. More Than Real ran over her head in last year's BC Juvenile Fillies Turf, and hasn't reproduced anything close to that as a 3yr.old. I believe the Garden City Stakes will come down to a 2-horse affair between Winter Memories and the Brian Meehan trained, Theysken's Theory, who's coming over from the UK for the Garden City. Theysken's Theory tried conventional dirt in last year's BC Juvenile Fillies. But has proven to be far more effective on turf in the UK. She's won 2 of 3 starts so far in 2011. Including the Atalanta Stakes at Newbury last time out. · 257 days ago ·

  • annmatt · Amen to changing jockeys! Javier will give her a chance to run her race! Hungry Island has a great record as well, and no disrespect to her or to Kathmanblu, but I'm hoping for Winter Memories to at least have the opportunity to run her race. If she gets beat fair and square, so be it, but here's hoping she reaffirms her prior successes and comes out in front at Garden City. · 261 days ago ·

  • humphrey · IT is interesting to hear Jerry Bailey speak abou the differences in turf course especially their "give" (Euro courses use an average penethrometer reading of how deep a weight goes into the course from a standard height) as a measure. Bailey also notes how some are manicured (fast) and others are left long (deep with closers) · 621 days ago ·
