Older Comments about the Irish Derby...

The Racing Post web-site announced this afternoon that Epsom Derby 1st & 2nd, Australia & Kingston Hill, will both be pointed toward the G1 Irish Derby at the Curragh on June 28th. Kingston Hill trainer Roger Varian says they're hoping for a bit more ease in the ground for the Irish Derby than they had at Epsom and Australia trainer Aidan O'Brien said they'd like to avoid soft ground with Australia if possible.
  • ILuvTurfRacing · In Ireland it's not at all a stretch to think that rain could happen and Roger Varian might get the kind of ease in the ground he's hoping to get for Kingston Hill. That said, should Australia not get good/good to firm ground at the Curragh or Kingston Hill not get soft/good to soft, Aidan O'Brien & Roger Varian both always have the option of pulling their horses out of the Irish Derby and instead running them in the G1 Coral-Eclipse at Sandown a week later. · 107 days ago
  • Euro Trash · It was a beautiful race by Australia and Joseph. Kingston Hill, my pick was just not good enough. There is a good chance that there will be more give to the ground for the Irish, so hopefully Kingston Hill can get his Classic win. But, I think that Australia can act on softer ground. · 107 days ago
