Older Comments about the Breeders' Cup Juvenile...

Here's a story that was posted on the Racing Post web-site about 11 to 12 hours ago that won't likely get a lot of attention in the United States but will likely get a lot of attention in Europe: Breeders Cup President, Craig Fravel, has expressed suprised after a study found that more 2YO running on Lasix at last month's 2-day Santa Anita meeting bled than those who had not received the medication. The research conducted by Hagyard Medical Institute looks certain to be seized on by critics of the decion to reverse the ban on Lasix for next year. I've never felt like Lasix was necessary for American 2YO. The European's have managed to race top caliber 2YO without the drug for a long time now, and quite often we see those same European 2YO show up at the Breeders Cup and dominate the Juvenile Turf races without having had the benefit of Lasix. I can't imagine a horse is much different than a human being in that uneccessary medication can only do more harm than good. But TJMO.

  • Mike in SB · No tmallios not all drugs are performance enhancing to the point of changing the outcome of a sporting event or race. Lance Armstrong was not banned for life for some medication that made him feel good or made his body function as well as possible, it was for taking blood suppliments that produced an abnormally high level of red blood cells and gave him an unfair advantage over a normal athlete. There is nothing wrong with doing everything possible to make an athlete perform to their maximum ability, diet, vitamines, training etc. The problem is when they go beyond that point with artificial stimulants, blood enhancers, pain blockers and other true performance enhancing drugs. · 257 days ago
  • tmallios1 · Going back to my previous point,if racing wanted this cleaned up. They would of done it,not the phony grandstanding. · 257 days ago
From what i am hearing,More than likely. Tap it Rich (in my opinion, head and shoulders most impressive maiden winner to date) will be wheeled back and entered in the Juvenile. If this is the case, the rest just might be runing for place money.

Anyone know the last time no horses from the breeders cup juvenile didnt make the Derby? Tho After the Juvenile was ran we all thought it wasnt impressive at all so I guess im not to surprised.
Take a look at how many winners of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile have gone on to have a successful three year old campaign...not many
does anybody have any information on which bloodlines are lasix dependent? This year the use of lasix will not be allowed so this might change the race.

  • Mary Z. · Never heard of one bloodline in particular, or any, being Salix-dependent, but I may ask someone who has done in-depth research on the subject. Good question. · 711 days ago
What are the chances the top 5 finishers of the 2011 BCJ make up the Super again> Rags,Cause,Hanse,TCI,Dullahan. I think it could happen.
What a great race this has turned out to be. Half the field has come back to win a graded stakes. Flatters Hansen, Union Rags and Creative Cause since they were well clear of the rest of the field
My prediction for 2011 Juvenile and big races as a 3 yr old is: Exfactor
I meant to say ARCH sired BC Classic, 1 1/4 miles, winner BLAME. Trying to type in the sun and can't see very well.
I wish the TV commentators would have done some research about UNCLE MO's pedigree before saying they think his sire, Indian Charlie, would keep him from winning the Kentucky Derby. That is just rediculous to make that kind of comment. His dam Play Maya, is by ARCH. ARCH, would the BC Classic at 1 1/4 miles. The dam is a huge factor in the success of elite racehorses!
I can't wait to see Uncle Mo in action, exacta? go with Jaycito.
