I did not expect that at all from him in the Oklahoma Derby.
Coal Front received a condylar fracture after winning the Gallant Bob.
Cupid, Accelerate, Breaking Lucky, Pavel
I know the Jockey Club Gold Cup is 10 furlongs, but right now, if Mr. Wilkes trains for him to work on his stamina, I would definetly run in it. McCraken could beat Good Samaritan, and maybe have a shot at beating Keen Ice if KI has a poor performance. And, right now, there are no other good pace horses, so I would pull a "West Coast", and take him to the lead, and have a slow pace throughout the whole race, to save stamina for the end, to just edge out KI or GS, if they run poorly.
Out of these probables, Breaking Lucky.
Would like to see McCraken, and maybe, Chad Brown should just race Cloud Computing and if he flunks (which he will), retire him. Keen Ice and Good Samaritan are closers, so who is going to set the pace? I don't know any other 3yos that should run? If I owned McCraken, I would send him to the JCGC, and just take the lead from the beginning. McCraken could easily get second from taking the lead and making it very slow. There are no good pace starters right now, unless other horses run in this race. If I was Baffert, Hoppertunity should run again, but he might have weakened a bit from last year. Hop is 6 years old, which is when they can be falling from their peak, and they just want to rest. And finally, maybe Pavel should run here, give him a chance to win. This will be a weird race if there are no good pace setters, everyone will be looking at the screen to see if Keen Ice will close it, or GS.
Watch Pavel, but Cupid is the one to beat...
isnt the horse Vanishing Point Owned by Ms. SHARMILA DASS?...well that is what she claims...
Looking at Baffert's records with 3YOs over the past 15 years, he actually had much more success training post-June heroes (Hoppetunity... Yes the 3YO Hop, Game on Dude, Bayern, Arrogate and West Coast are some of them) than KD winners. So it isn't surprising that Arrogate and WC ran well post June of their 3YO campaigns, and it looked like he has perfected his approach over the past 2 years.
Saturday will be a big test for Oscar, first time going 12, against a pretty classy older field.
Would love to see Dortmund make a comeback and win this.. I know the chances are slim :/
