Winx improved by about 4 pounds. Will likely jump up to 2nd or 3rd in the next Longines ranking.
Most trainers would have raced Arrogate again I think. Why didn't Baffert? Baffert is the best when he has a good one. I think he didn't race him again because he knows how good the colt is and doesn't have to race him. And that should worry the CC camp. I could be wrong just an opinion. Just watch the Travers again try to talk yourself out of it. I love CC but I think he will not be able to hang with the colt in the stretch. Remember too prep race or not the 3 yo can only get stronger month by month. Oh by the way who thinks Found will actually run in the Classic? OBrian is having fun with yanks I think.
I don't know why folks are so shocked. On paper she has held her own at the highest level If you look at the classic field in reality other than Chrome no one has had a stellar consistent year. Really if you look at chrome without prejudice he won Dubai against a fairly weak field and has run only in California and other than Beholder really hasn't beaten anyone there either. If Found Transforms to dirt which that will be the million dollar question , but if she does I think she has a huge shot
BeastBob • 25 days ago "This one looks like the 2016 Chandelier winner!!" This one is your romping winner of the 2016 BC Juvenile Fillies!!!
Being trained by Todd Pletcher and coming out of a BLUEGRASS CAT by TAPIT, is wondrous. This filly will win the Breeders Cup JF in a hand ridden blowout in the most dominant performance by any 2 year old in history, against a very good field.
I had been saying this all year- many times Taylor made has said they were enjoying racing with a horse so much that they wanted to target Pegasus Dubai and BCC next year for the big purses IF he was still training so well. When you have the best horse in the world- why would you not? Some people may call it greed but Chrome'/ connections have been most generous with sharing him with everyone and even chasing races that have hardly any purse (San Diego, awesome again etc) and With the early retirement of injury free three year olds being a constant trend- it would do wonders for the sport to see Chrome run a full year next year. We would maybe get to see him on the east coast in the Whitney and Woodward which would be amazing additions to a Pegasus, another Dubai win and capping the year off in the BCC. They are chasing the opportunity to have a horse that could have one of the best career campaigns ever. If he raced next year and won out he could be -Santa Anita Derby winner G1 -Kentucky Derby winner G1 -Preakness winner G1 -Hollywood Derby winner (turf) G1 -Dubai World Cup winner G1 -Pacific CLassic winner G1 -Awesome Again winner G1 -Breeders cup classic winner G1 -inaugural Pegasus World Cup winner G1 -Dubai World Cup Winner G1 -Whitney winner G1 -Woodward winner G1 -Breeders cup classic winner G1 Would have run in three straight DWC's, three BCC's, and been the only KD winner in recent memory to run a full six year old campaign. That's minimum thirteen grade one stakes, on turf and dirt, overseas and at home, against top competition that they would be going after. And he could even have the same rest again after Dubai. The money just makes it worthwhile. It doesn't make them greedy. Martin has shown that he wants Chrome to be called the best- he wants him to break records. He will keep him in training as long as possible because he knows he will never get another horse or ride like this again.
Half-sister to Goldencents breaks maiden at Santa Anita.
I sometimes wonder if Aidan uses a magic 8-ball when making key decisions
I don't think it's a given that Arrogate will be on the lead as many are concluding, although it's certainly possible. In his race prior to the Travers he stalked from 3rd in a 3-horse field through fractions of 24-48-112; a similar reflection of his last work. If he does run back even close to his Travers and Chrome was to press him on the lead, I don't see Chrome being in front at the wire. I know many assume that a wrapped up horse could run faster 'if he wanted to'. But a lot will depend on how the race unfolds. Consider this. Chrome's average speed in the PC was 37.2 mph with a final 1/4 in 24.44 secs. Most would agree that he ran well within himself for most if not all of the race. In the 2014 BCC however, his average speed was 38.2 mph and he ran an all out final 1/4 in 25.36 secs. Bayern won with a final time of 1:59.88. Chrome ran 41 ft or 4 3/4 lengths more than Bayern did. So theoretically, with a rail trip and generously giving him a 5 length/1 sec consideration, he finishes with about a 1:58.88 final time in the 2014 BCC. Interestingly enough, his 113 Beyer/112 Brisnet PC speed figure equaled what he received in the '14 Classic. His lifetime best. So are those saying that he is better now and can run faster than his theoretical fastest saying that he can break the 1:58 mark? I'd have to see that to believe it. Based on his previous figures it would take a freak performance above Arrogate's Travers to accomplish this as he would have to run fast throughout the entire race. If Arrogate does go early and Chrome tries to stay with him I believe he gets outrun in the last quarter. Arrogate has proven he can run fast, and then faster. For now I'll see the glass as half full and his Travers 'anomaly' more of a possibility than a probability. Again, a lot will depend on how the Classic unfolds.

  • pointgiven23 via Disqus · It was interesting to see the comments that they were surprised of his speed in the Travers. He seems to be a horse that can show aggressive tactics if needed. Post position will dictate what Smith will do. At this point we have to let the horse speak for us. We know he is training well, we know his best race can win. For those that don't agree, good for them that's their own view. The biggest concern I have is the layoff, how much can you make a horse ready for this kind of challenge with so little racing. It's either going to be the smartest decision ever or poorest. Good thing the trainer has done it before and is known for having horses ready off a freshening. I really hope we get to see a performance from him that will put him in the winner's circle. · 23 hours ago
  • Steve Gibson via Disqus · So now you're comparing different races run on different tracks on different days and what, proposing that's an indicator of who the better horses is?? Who the faster horse is? Which horse can close faster?? LOL Skippy. · 2 hours ago
Okay, lets get back to the positive comments. This is a California Chrome website, so most of us are CC fans. Wouldn't it be great to see CC and Winx face off on turf in Australia and dirt in the U.S.? Probably no chance, but hopefully they are BOTH running again in 2017 after the Pegasus. It would really be nice to see if CC can be the first to win the Dubai World Cup twice in a row and the Meydan track should be even faster next year. My apologies in missing that Shaman Ghost (one of the best names ever) won the 2015 Queen's Cup which is also a mile and a quarter race (Lexie Lou won in 2014 and then lost to Chrome in the Hollywood Derby). And now Keen Ice may be in the Classic. I'm really looking forward to all the Breeder's Cup races.
How man people here would like to see California Chrome come back and race in 2017

now we just need The Pizza Man to enter, and we will have a full field!
I get a kick out of how many of the Frosted haters go on other horse's topics for the sole purpose of bashing Frosted, and sometimes even create new accounts just for that purpose. I guess the hatred is so prevalent that there isn't enough room on the Frosted topic to hold everybodys' invective. Not sure what the horse has ever done to deserve this level of scorn.
  • DDAmasa via Disqus · I haven't seen any Frosted hate. Just people expressing the opinion he's not a 10F horse. Considering he's lost every 10F race he's run, it's a legitimate discussion. · 12 hours ago
  • ChromeSecretariat · I certainly don't hate Frosted and if California Chrome gets beat in the BCC I certainly hope it is by Frosted. But, Frosted just doesn't seem to be a 10F horse at this point. It's like asking Usain Bolt to run the 400 meters against the best in the world. I was hoping Frosted and Dortmund would meet in the BCC mile and be neck at the stretch (Like CC and Shared Belief in the 2015 San Antonio Stakes), and see who comes out on top. I just feel that it a better distance for both horses. Certainly their owners are not afraid of running against the toughest competition. Maybe at they mature as 5-year-olds they will win at the longer distance as Melatonin and Hoopertunity did in winning their first mile and a quarter races this year. I certainly hope so. · 11 hours ago

Not surprising considering he sent Gleneagles last year. As we found out last year, Found will likely find the early pace of the BCC (particularly the first 6f) too much for her to maintain her elite turn of foot in the stretch. The only way Found will be a factor is the BCC is a slow early pace, which allows her to stay in contact with the pack early. String the race out and she's done.
Since a few days before last years juvenile this pic of a young Nyquist has been my home page on my phone. If this is his swan song, I say thanks for the memories🐴♥️ https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/672dc522dbf165b0f417c665560e62b5599100e7542a48889d74a27431ab50d9.jpg
under 2 minutes. this horse could have been a long distance beast
As expected at 1/5 this colt toyed with a maiden race winning easily in 1:09 2/5. Very exciting future for this one
