  • AmbitiousD · Question for everyone. How does the horse know when to switch leads on a straight course? I see this as being tricky for Johnny V when the horse's typical que to change is entering or coming out of turns. I'm sure Mr. Motion will have AK ready for this, but the topic certainly has my curiosity. · 12 days ago ·

  • DanMunn1 · One thing to note - Sheikh Mohammed owns part of the breeding rights to Animal Kingdom. His Godolphin operation own Farhh. I feel it is highly likely that Farhh will scratch out of this contest and aim for the Prince of Wales' Stakes. It'd be very silly for Sheikh Mohammed to run both. He has a vested interest in Animal Kingdom winning · 12 days ago ·

  • icyhotboo · ILuvTurfRacing, just to be sure I understand you right, are you saying that you believe the premature move had little effect on the outcome? This isn't a trick question, as I've only gotten deeply into turf the past year, I just wanted to know if I'm getting this the right way. Thanks · 128 days ago ·

  • zxswordxz · It amaze me how many people think AK could not win the race. I love AK and I think Johnny V as his pilot could have make a difference in the outcome or if Joel would have a bit more patient but I really don't blame Joel, it is first time on AK and I really don't think he knows AK strength and weakness like Johnny does. · 128 days ago ·

Was 2012 a year of disappointment? Was it a year where the depth of divisions was so lacking that a Turf Miler would be named Horse of the Year, Turf Champion, and Champion Older Male? Or was 2012 a year with such an outstanding group of horses, that it took one so brilliant, so versatile, and so ta...Read More

  • dani.pugh · Just because a turf miler is named HOTY doesn't mean a weak older male division. If the times of the races were sub par and the numbers were way down, I could see it but that was far from the case. The numbers that the older males threw were higher than numbers we have seen in recent years. Times were just as good if not better for that group. Just because one did not establish themselves doesn't mean it was a bad bunch. That could just as well me the group all around was talent and full of depth. It wasn't like a longshot beat the favorite. The horses that won were already well respected. RTG had a very consistent year, as did Fort Larned, MMM, and Flat Out. The Whitney, FO, FL, and RTG went 123. Look at their records, you see they run consistently fast. They were evenly matched, but also one of the best groups of older males we have seen in a long time. Times and numbers say that. · 148 days ago ·

  • yukichan · Excelebration would have been my top choice had there been more time between this and his stunning performance at QE2. I think Aidan is asking quite a bit of him to face the likes of this BC field. He's one of the best horses racing and will indeed be quite the legend (and training job) if he can pull this off. Same goes for Animal Kingdom. Heart wants him to win, heads says probably not. · 228 days ago ·

  • travel_vic · another horsey statement based upon nothing but heresay: a horse leaves its best on the track. These are athletes. YOUNG ones at that. For a period of three years I studied charts of horses coming back from hard taxing stretch battles with comments like "all out, driving, etc," to see how they did next out. ONLY fillies showed any signs of "bounce" when the follow up was at least 7 to 10 days. Think hard: How did you respond when you were YOUNG at hard exercise after a few days rest? Fallacy that has been exposed. p. 95 Winning at the Races Dr. William Quirin. "suppose instead we study horses involved in a prolonged drive from the quarter pole to the wire...Maybe this woud be enough to tap a horse's energy reserves. BUT, as the following figures prove, the answer is an emphatic NO." · 228 days ago ·
