Pappy's Double H died at the 3/16s pole during the running of the 11th race at Belmont on October 3, 2009. From what I was told by staff at the track, he died of a heart attack, and apparently of a broken neck, although from the replay, he did not die immediately. While watching the race, it looked to me as if Pappy's Double H broke both front legs, then collapsed, flipped over onto his neck, throwing the jockey. I hope he didn't suffer, but it looked very bad.
May Pappy's Double H rest in peace!
