  • LAZMANNICK · It wasn't just the ride. The Fugue didn't have anything today. Maybe she came back too soon and maybe the jinx that only two fillies have ever won this race. The Fugue wasn't gaining much ground on the field and was losing ground to the winner. As for Verrazano, I doubt he would do any better in the US. IMO he was always overrated. 10F is definitely too long. They should concentrate on a mile. THat high Beyer he got in the Haskell was way out of line, again IMO. · 174 days ago
  • kaitlinefree1 · Verrazano is really overrated. mile is his best distance on turf & dirt. & IMO, hes not been that special on turf either. · 174 days ago
Didn't get my tri-fecta or super-fecta but I did nail my exacta!! Mukhadram wins the G1 Coral-Eclipse with Trading Leather in 2nd and longshot Somewhat in 3rd.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @jonquil, You're absolutely right about Mukhadram being a much deserving winner of a G1 race. He ran Al Kazeem's a$$ off in last year's Prince of Wales's Stakes, and if you'll remember briefly looked like he might have Al Kazeem's measure in last year's Coral-Eclipse until Al Kazeem drifted into Mukhadram's path and stopped his momentum, which definitely cost him 2nd in that race at minimum, IMO. When he got cut off by Al Kazeem it allowed Declaration of War in the clear to get up ahead of Mukhadram for 2nd. · 175 days ago
  • jonquil · Yes! Yes! Do you know how many times I bet on Mukhadram to win last year? Haha, poor guy. So glad to finally be able to witness his victory. I'm a little sad The Fugue didn't win, but of course I sort of expected it, but Mukhadram winning really IMO is the best result to this race. · 175 days ago
My Coral-Eclipse picks for Saturday: 1st-Mukhadram 2nd-Trading Leather 3rd-The Fugue 4th-True Story. I think Mukhadram will come on a bunch for his 4th last time out at Ascot in the Prince of Wales's Stakes. The Fugue is a lay for me at 2-1 simply because she took this same route in 2013 and ran really well at Ascot, finishing 3rd in the Prince of Wales's Stakes but bombed terribly at Sandown in the Coral-Eclipse. Trading Leather ran a rather sub-par seasonal debut back in May in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket, but I think the drop back to 10f will be a plus for him, and Jim Bolger has been targeting the Eclipse all along with him. Verrazano's been good in his career at a mile and 9f, but his 2 attempts at 10f have produced meteoric results at best in the Kentucky Derby & Travers. If he runs, Kingston Hill could be player, but I think his status is still very much in question because of the quick ground. If Verrazano doesn't see out the trip I would look for True Story to finish the super-fecta, IMO.
